You need to be sure that you have PC selected and that DAX is off. To use a mic plugged into the computer, you need to set it as the default recording device.1 -

The EU is a bit of a different challenge with all the testing that has to happen. Much more strict that the US. You would not believe the cost to do testing for emissions on electronic devices.3 -
