Tuner Genius is powert cycling

Has anyone else experienced a TGXL power cycling randomly? I've had the unit about a year and it has ben rock sold. Lately at different times I hear a "click" and see the TGXL is powering on and off. I am not transmitting at the time I see the cycling. Anyone else experience this? If so what did you find was the problem? The cycling is not everyday and is not continuous.

    Make sure the voltage is at least 14V. The TGXL actually wants a voltage of 15-28V (see the writings on the back of the TGXL.

    If the supply voltage is around 12, it will do funny things.

    Did you measure the voltage?

    Have you confirmed it isn't a Power Supply/Connector issue?

    Yes the power connection is fine. I did a restart where I actually power the unit down with the power switch and restarted. Seems to be stable now. This isn't the only time the TGXL has done this but it is infrequent.

    The TG-XL manual states an operating voltage of 12-20 volts. The TG-XL connector says +15 VDC. When operating AM and the TG-XL reboots the antenna is disconnected and the amplifier would melt down if not for high SWR detect protection. So, I am now running the TG-XL on a separate, HP industrial power supply isolated from the Flex 6600 supply. The disconnect always occurs after transmitting, even at low-level from the exciter, so it indeed may be a network issue. Router, switch, 6600, TG-XL. I just want to identify the problem before something happens to the amplifier. It is an Alpha 89 with many protection features, but it also has pin-diodes that don't always survive the overload protections. I've replaced several diodes. Will report back.

    The manual is actually wrong and the connector on the back of the TGXL is correct. This has been confirmed by 4O3A.

    I run mine on an 18V supply.

    Testing with a supply voltage of +15VDC I have not been able to generate a fault. Using the +13.8VDC supply source for the 6600 appears to be problematic and a higher voltage of +15-18VDC is recommended.

    A quick update - after a week of extensive testing I have observed NO unscheduled resets. I am now running the TGXL at +16v. Previously, I was using the 6600 supply that was much closer to +14v and just low enough to cause the TGXL to randomly reboot. Those having similar issues should perhaps rethink their TGXL power supply to keep it happy.
