The 6700 is more than just 8 instances of the same SmartSDR software. You can view 8 different bands all at the same time. You can run different modes on each of those instances including digital modes. This is a capability that no other radio on the market today that has that ability. Not everyone wants or needs that level of operation. But, it is there in the 6700.

Does the new 8000 Series Radios still have the speaker audio being piped to the AUX connector or has that become a dedicated digital audio without processing. If not… Why not?

I was a flex user on and off for years but never had one for long. I have had many radios over the years (I'm 71 now) and my current setup is a K4. Now I like the SSDR interface and I can't have more than one antenna that's worth anything due to my limits in a HOA. So, having more than one or maybe two slices open is excessive for me. Now because of the improvements they have made with the new 8000, I have opted to order a new 8400. Now I'm hoping they improved the TX audio because that bugged me from day one on all previous models. It needs a 10 or 15 band audio equalizer for starters like Apache labs or the old Flex 5000's. If this winds up being the same old audio chain like the 6000's, it may just go out the door.

I think you will find that even your K4 has MIC Audio High (Treble) and Lows (Base) settings in a menu somewhere for the MIC audio and really that is all that the FLEX TX EQ is but gives you much more ability to adjust it to YOUR MIC, Voice pitch and of course your liking with that said I think you will find the 8400 with the same TX audio set up as the other 6000 series of Radios being a real SDR that ALL run SmartSDR in one form or another of Client Hardware.

The FLEX has REALLY superb Audio if you catch someone on the air who knows what they are talking about and knows SmartSDR to help you get the TXEQ and Processor set up properly.

Just a heads up the 8400 has the same 1/8" TRS connector for the MIC circuit as the 6400 so you will need to adapt your MIC to that unless your planning on just using the included Hand MIC which may be why you couldn't get good Audio reports from your other Flex's.

I have ran Flex's since 2008 and I have NEVER gotten a bad Audio report or lack of Audio punch on any of the Radios and I have had about them all. By just spending a hour with someone who knew my voice and I use Heil, Radio Sport or even Audio-Technia Microphones.

For years i've been waiting for phase coherent receiving/diversity reception for noise cancellation/beamsteering/ESC in Flexradio and even in NEW 8000 series NOTHING, NADA ?!?

And i haven't eaven mentioned any other crapy functions - NR, NB, …

There are no excuses for something like that - this is an absolute no-go.

Fortunately, God's providence saved me at the last moment - not to wait for 8000 Series and don't waste my money on it.

And for 10 days now, I am the proud owner of ANAN G2 ULTRA !

    Everything works as expected - A W E S O M E rig!

    Make your own conclusion.
