I'm confused on full duplex with the 8400 and a transverter

Was wanting to pick up a Q5 multiband transverter. If I connect an antenna to RX-A on the back of the 8400, can I transmit via XVTA on 2m and receive on RX-A on 70cm at the same time or vice versa?

Or did I buy the wrong radio?

    No as they both use the same hardware. You require a FLEX-6700, 6600(M), 8600(M) or an AU-520(M) to do full duplex.

    Can the 8600 do full duplex on the same XVTA input? So if I was using a dual band ant running to a single Q5, could I then do what I want, or would I still need a dedicated receive ant connected to the 8600?

    Your Flex covers 160-6 meters. You can't throw up an antenna and recieve 70cm without converting it to a frequency your radio can handle. If you want transmit on 2M and recieve on 70CM (such as satellite work) it requires 2 transverters, one for each band. And as Mike said, you can't do that with an 8400.

    Yup, I'm not sure why I thought I could do that.

    Alright, I ordered a Q5 multiband. I guess the dream of full duplex will have to wait.

    No. You need 2 unique transverters still. You can run 2 transverters on the same Transverter port with different IF frequencies such as 28Mhz and 50Mhz and I do that today. I use a diplexor to isolate the hi and low IF. But, you can't do full duplex even with that configuration.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph.
