Flex 8600M and SSDR on PC

I've been working with the Flex-6700 for a long time. I used the SSDR on my PC and FlexControl. I'm waiting for the Flex 8600M I ordered to be delivered. I'd like to ask if I can use the SSDR simultaneously while working on the 8600M? Will the image on the 8600M and the SSDR on the computer be displayed separately? If I turn the VFO knob on the 8600M, will the frequency on the SSDR change? Then I won't need FlexControl?

Yes. They are treated as 2 different 'users' sharing the radio.

If you turn the VFO on the M model, nothing happens in SmartSDR. They are different clients and share the entire spectrum from 30khz to 54mhz.

You can still use the FlexControl on SmartSDR if you want.

    Mike,
But if I'm using SSDR on my computer, will the radio frequency change on SSDR when I turn the VFO knob?
I have a Flex-8600M nearby and access to the VFO knob is unlimited. Then why would I need a second knob? FlexControl?

On the front panel of the radio, after selecting the version, select Smart Control instead of RUN. This allows the panadapter and waterfall to be on the PC and control the radio from the front panel buttons and knobs.

One more question: Do I need to uninstall the SmartSDR that worked with the Flex-6700 and reinstall it after connecting the Flex 8600M? It will have a different radio and a different serial number.Slav

Hi Slav, SmartSDR is not tied to a specific radio so you do not need to reinstall.

The version of SmartSDR does need to match the version of the radio. If your 6700 and 8600M are on the same version, then you only need that version of SmartSDR.

If the radios are on different versions, then you need the corresponding versions of SmartSDR. You can have multiple versions of SmartSDR installed on the same computer, but you can only run one at a time.

No, SmartSDR works with either radio. If you were not using the latest version of SmartSDR, you will get a pop-up prompt to downgrade the radio to the same version as you are using on your computer. Don't do that. Instead, go to Flex Radio's website and download the latest version of SmartSDR. You should uninstall the older version if you have to upgrade. If you do, you will have to redo all of your previous settings.

I have version 4.1.5, so it will work on the latest version. Thanks for your help.
