AetherSDR - MacBook Pro - No Sound

All, I am running Mint on a a1709 MacBook Pro (great use for it). However, I can't seem to get the Cirrus sound card to work.

I have tried everything ChatGPT and Claude of recommended and any thing I can find online, but no joy with the sound card hardware. I've spent about 3 hours on this.

I don't mind changing Distros if I have to. Has anyone had any success?

AetherSDR runs awesome on it, but I can't hear anything and all I have is the Dummy sound points.

Thanks in advance, Mike va3mw

Hey Mike, ask one of your agents to look through the issues on the GitHub repo. Both open and closed. We had one tracked with a lot of comments and discussion but I can’t remember if we resolved it yet or not. I’m in meetings all day or I would look for you.

Are you not able to hear system sounds either, or just AetherSDR sounds not working. The issue I’m thinking of that we spent some time troubleshooting was the user could hear system sounds, but was getting dummy devices in the AetherSDR audio settings. If you aren’t even getting system sounds then that’s a different issue.

No sounds at all and it is a core hardware failure. If you go into Mint Control panel, you only see the Dummy sound card and nothing else.

I am not in front of the laptop, but if you do a aplay -l you only see an HDMI reference.

From there, Claude and I had a long chat, but no luck including add some community drivers that 'should' have fixed it for the Cirrus Logic CS8409.

DOH! that font is small (he says double checking). It is an A1708. Oh, that makes a BIG difference

Back in my hole… and more Claude chatting.

Hey Mike, there’s a discussion thead on the repo titled “AtherSDR” where Steve, KD2OM reports having Linux on an older Mac and it working. You might try replying and asking about his setup.

I got it mostly functional except for the Left channel.

On Mint, the end result was that I had to roll back the kernel to a previous version.

Claude and I spent a few hours on it. :) Thanks!!
