Is it worth using the built in ATU on the 6600 even if the antenna has a useable tune below 2-1?

Hi Ben, I tend to use the tuner to more closely match the antenna in those situations, but I don't think it makes much difference either way.
If you are getting full requested power out, then you are totally fine without the tuner. If you are close to the edge, a benefit of the tuner is protection against changing conditions (wind, rain, etc) that can push you over the threshold.

I almost never use a Tuner if it is below 2:1. If it is above that, I go figure out whats wrong with the antenna.
The only time I do is on the bottom end of 80M when my inverted V does cut it. But, I can clearly tell that it works very poorly when out of its resonance range. Yes, the radio is happy but the antenna turns into more of a cloud warmer.
