Cannot register to smart link.

I am logged into smartlink, but when I try to register I get "radio registration unsuccessful, PTT timeout"

Is there a problem?

To register a Flex Radio with SmartLink, log in to your SmartLink account in SmartSDR, click "SmartLink Setup," then hit Register. Press your microphone's PTT button or the CW key to confirm physical control of the radio.

No, SmartLink is up and running. Did you press the button on the Mic?

This process has nothing to do with the mic. For shack infrastructure reasons I went with an 8600 with a Maestro. On my Windows 11 PC I open SmartSDR. At the bottom is asks to Connect or Smartlink setup. I chose smartlink setup. I can login and then it says that I am not registered for Smartlink. So I press the register tab and I get the error. I really do not know what I am registering to, but if it is so prominent then it must be important. But it will not let me.

When I set up the new radio I connected the HFM-3 to the Maestro. Should I have connected it to the radio?

I don't know, I never tried that… but try connecting the mic to the radio or connect a key and try that.

@whniii385 Grab the SmartSDR V3 manual and step through Chapter 9. It looks like you skipped a step in the radio registration where you are required to have a CW key or Mic connected to the radio and then put the radio into transmit. This step is there as a security feature to make sure you have the radio in your possession.

This was a great help, I got the radio registered, when I go to the next step and choose Automatic, it also asks for forwarding tcp and udp ports. When left blank and I run test it seems to hang.

The guide referenced is old. Is there a newer version of the manual that references the forwarding ports?

The guide is old, but still current. In automatic mode, you are not required to enter any details.
