Two instances of JTDX/WSJTX on SmartSDR for MacOS

Hello all!. I turned my shack into a Mac shack recently (using M4 Mac Mini). I have been able to run almost everything I used to run on my Windows PC as far as the Flex is concerned (SmartSDR, JTDX, Wsjtx, Gridtracker, MacloggerDX (the best logger available) and so on.

Only drawback I've encountered so far is that if I want to use the 2 slices of my 6400 at the same time, I havent been able to do so. I´ve tried the native FT8 tool and find it useful but not as powerfull as jtdx or wsjtx and unfortunately, as far as I know, SmartSDR for Mac doesn´t allow for streaming to 2 dax channels at the same time.

I use Loopback and tools as xCAT and xDAX, to do this but to no avail. So far, xCAT does connects to SmarSDRs 2 slices and I can control them separately. BUT with xDAX it only allows me to select one Slice at a time. If I select Slice A it turns Slice B gray and viceversa. Each one of them separately does work and jtdx receives and decodes fine but no matter what I try I can´t get them both to be active at the same time.

Notes:

Radio is a Flex 6400

Mac is M4 Mac Mini

Running latest version of SmartSDR for MAC, JTDX, Loopback, xDAC, xCAT

Does anybody operates on this set up that can help me?

Thanks in advance,

I’m curious as to the desire to use two copies of JTDX. Is this so you can work two different bands and/or modes simultaneously?

In my case, I use only one copy, but JTDX takes advantage of using two slices, care of the “split operation” setting - one for receive and one for transmit. I believe this method improves the transmit signal quality.

Have you tried turning JTDX Split Operation “off”?

(PS - I’m actually using “WSJT-X Improved” which I think is superior, but probably wouldn’t make a difference in your scenario.)

  • Thanks Bill. Yes, the idea of having 2 instances of JTDX or WSJTX at the same time is to be able to take advantage of Flex´s multiple SCU and operate 2 bands at the same time (in my case with the 6400).

I alternatively use JTDX and WSJTX Improved, but so far feels jtdx has better decoding.

i am able to run macssdr and four instances of wsjtx with flex 6600m. using xdax and xcat

    wsjtx 4 slices.png

you can see that the four slice of macssdr are covered over by the 4 instance of wsjtx

upper right hand corner is jtbridge which consolidates all info from four wsjtx

you can see xcat in bottom center

i use a apple scrypt to start up the four instances of wsjtx which also IDs each slice A,B,C,and D

I do run multiple monitors but hti show it can be don on single monitor

although crowded and you have to choose what is important to operate

this setup keep your eyes busy and mind going around and around

as for antenna fro 20 thru 6m i have lpda at 50 ft and for 80 thru 10 have 145ft OCF at 80 ft

with 6600m i can assign best antenna per band due to two SCU of 6600m

all this run on mac mini M1 …no problem

Question…have you setup a loopback for each dax channel ( 1 thru 2)

    Screenshot 2025-09-10 at 6.16.27 PM.png

you can see i have dax1 and dax2 builtin my loopback devices

the you can select them in xdax
