creating a second slice

On my 6400M, using only the front panel. I have one slice, cw on 20 meters, 14.050. I click on the up arrow to create a second slice. It comes up as ssb on 20 meters, in the ssb portion of the band. Not always, and not on all bands. I thought the second slice would come up in the same mode and close to the frequency of the first slice. Sometimes, on some bands, it does.

Then I make the second slice the active slice and load a general profile, 20 CW. It gets loaded to the first slice, not the second, active slice. So the second slice is still wrong. And the first slice gets set to the general profile freq, not where it was when I loaded the profile.

So I then have to change the freq and mode of the newly created second slice. Sometimes, not always.

This is an example. I loaded a general profile for 20 meter ssb. It loaded slice one with ssb on 14.300. Then I pressed the up arrow to create a second slice and it came up as 20 meter ssb on 14.053.45. Which is the last freq that was on the second slice.

Is this a persistence thing?

Global Profiles reload the radio to the way you saved it including the number of panadapters you had open.

When you opened the 2nd slice, it did as you asked and reverted to how you had saved it.

If you want, say a 20M CW and 20M SSB open at the same time, set the radio that way and save a new Global Profile with both panadapters open. Call it 20M-CW-SSB as example.

Thanks Mike. That makes sense. I can do it that way. I just don't remember ever saving a profile with more than one panadapter cuz I'm just learning that I have to start out small, which for now means one panadapter, one slice.
