CW and Working Split

When working CW and having to work "split", I have not found an efficient way to instantly switch from let's say the DX station on Slice A… and the pileup on Slice B to locate who they are working. With my Icom radio it is easy. One momentary button on the radio quickly and easily allows this to happen.

Listening to slice A in Left ear and pileup in RIght ear is NOT a good solution at all, as the DX's signal strength is about cut in half.

How are other CW ops efficiently working split with the Flex Radios?

I have a Flex 8600 running latest software….

Thanks!

How are you interfacing with the radio? Which client?

Hello Mike! HNY.. Not sure I understand your question.

Smart SDR as well as Maestro C.

Just looking for a SUPER QUICK momentary solution to :

    1. Switch audio from Slice A to Slice B
    2. WHile audio is switched… be able to tune to the station being worked
    3. Releasing of "button or ???" returns audio to Slice A and you are TXing on Slice B (split mode obviously)

    1. Switch audio from Slice A to Slice B
    2. WHile audio is switched… be able to tune to the station being worked
    3. Releasing of "button or ???" returns audio to Slice A and you are TXing on Slice B (split mode obviously)

I have done this so much I just do it visually now and seldom bother with listening to the pile up and just concentrate on the DX station but will address what you are looking for ( single button push like your ICOM to swap audio between the DX and the pile up )

    1. have a single slice receiver open (typically slice A) on the DX freq with the speaker icon unmuted in the slice flag and the TX icon illuminated red for that slice.

2 select the SPLIT icon in that slice A flag. This will automatically open up a second slice receiver labeled "slice B" up 1 KHz from the DX freq, slice B will also automatically become the TX freq because it's TX icon is illuminated red ( no longer slice A) and slice B speaker icon will also be active. As you have noted you are now hearing both slice A and slice B simultaneously.

3 Your desired ICOM single button push……….mute the speaker icon on slice B by right clicking the speaker icon in the slice B flag when you do not want to hear the pileup. When you do want to hear the pileup right click slice B's speaker icon again. Sure you will hear the DX's freq as well but they should be silent when the station being worked is transmitting. Now there may be a lid transmitting on the DX freq as well so they will not be silent but such is life in the big city. Like I said, I no longer listen to the pileup. I only listen to the DX freq and always have slice B muted and determine where the DX is working the pileup visually via the pan adapter. Been efficiently working spilt this way for over 13 years now on a Flex.
