Tuner Genius 1.2.17 integration crashing two radios

n0mdh

New to me TGXL 1x3. Installed v1.2.17 and started to change bands / tune and ran into all sorts of crashing with my 6600M. I thought it was the radio so I tried with my 6300. Same issue there. Both radios were running 4.1.5.

I downgraded to TGXL v 1.1.20 and everything is rock solid. Change bands, tune, everything works great. Has anyone seen this before?

yes!! I had to send back my tgxl as it would not stay on overnight; they loaded up 1.2.17 so far so good

Is that all they did or was there something physically wrong with the unit? I can load firmware 1.2.17 or 1.1.20 at will using the respective utility. If it's running 1.1.20, my tuner is completely stable. I'd just leave it like this, but I don't have the fancy integration with SmartSDR; I have to use the TGXL utility.

they told me they had to check the CPU; when i left it on overnight i would have to reset to turn it back on; so far so good; it is now running 1.2.17

now i can control the tuner through the radio; I still don't really understand the difference between stby and bypass

Ahh, ok. Your issue seems somewhat different than what I'm experiencing. My tuner does not change behavior over time. It's an easily reproducible issue where when I'm running 1.2.17 running a tune or changing bands will invariably cause Smart SDR Windows to lose connection with the radio.

This does not happen at all running 1.1.20.

@n0mdh Can you try 1.2.11 and see if it crashes.

    https://www.flexradio.com/wp-content/uploads/assets/Tuner-Genius-Utility-v1.2.11.exe

1.2.17 adds sending meter and status info to the radio as well as the radio able to send a TUNE command to the TG XL. This is more IP traffic to and from the radio. I am trying to track and have a way to replicate the issue here. With my 8600, TG AG and PG, I cannot get 1.2.17 to crash.

Also, what client are you using? (Win, MAC, IOS, M panel, Maestro?)

Any additional software running? (FRStack, Node Red, etc)

I appreciate your help on this Dave.
I've installed 1.2.11 and it also appears to be as stable as 1.1.20. I've switched amongst all bands and tuned each band within the TGXL app. This would have caused a crash by now on 1.2.17.

    Running Applications:
    Windows 11, SmartSDR 4.1.5, FRStack 4.0, N1MM 1.0.11052.0, GridTracker2, WSJTX 3.0.

Also on 1.1.20, 1.2.17 make the radio crash on band changes on my side as well

@F4BPO are you running SmartSDR v4? What model radio? What client? Any additional software running?

@n0mdh can you try 1.2.17 without FRStack, Grid Tracker and N1MM? I want to see if the reduced IP traffic to the radio helps. Do a cold boot (remove DC ) after shutting down the programs.

I will try to reduce the SW in play and test again. Additionally, this was not on a single radio. I saw this behavior both on a 6300 and a 6600M, consistently.

I upgraded to 1.2.17. With everything shut down but SSDR 4.1.5 and TGXL utility 1.2.17, after the fourth band change. I never even got to the tuning test.

Back on 1.2.11 and no crashes after 44 band changes.

This appears to be the same problem posted by several others, including myself, in which the manufacturer of the TGXL has a version 1.2.17 on their website, but Flex only has version 1.2.11 available to download on their website.

    Hi David,

I am using v4.1.5, I have a Flex 8600, Client Maestro but also tried with SmartSDR on computer.

Using plenty other software yes such as PGXL, AG 8x2 with TGXL also.

Almost every band changes with 1.2.17 of TGXL make the radio crash. So I do not use it anymore and previous version of TGXL there is no crash to report at all.
