Slice-Master v.0.11.0g program don't work with new firmware 3.10.10
Hello, unfortunately, with the new 3.10.10 update, there are some problems with the Slice-master.v0.11.0g software.
The problem I'm experiencing with the Slice Master program is this:
During handling of the above exception, another exception occurred:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File:"flex\flexpy!,line 1309,in publish_updates
and other error etc.
And it won't open any WSJTX program, JTDX is all blocked.
How do I fix this?
I'm forced to revert to SmartSDR v3.09.19.

It sounds like something you should be able to fix. If communications are blocked, then it is likely a Windows Firewall issue.
Slicemaster works fine on 3.10.10.

Hi, thanks Mike,
but unfortunately, on two computers with Windows 11 PRO 64, Slice-Master v0.11.0g doesn't work with firmware version v3.10.10.
I tried reinstalling both Slice Master and the firmware, but unfortunately this is the error I get. Slice Master doesn't open JTDX, WSJTDX, or CW, anything. However, if I revert to version v3.9.19, everything works.
Here are the screenshots of the errors:Here are the screenshots of the errors:
The problem isn't in the Windows11 Pro firewall.
Unfortunately, I have to revert to firmware version v.3.9.19 for now, hoping the administrators will fix the problem.
Thanks

Alex, please email the author of SliceMaster. He may not be aware of your issue and I don't think Don monitors this group at all.
I just tested this morning with both SliceMaster and FRStack and I do not seem to have an issue.

Same here Slicemaster appears to connect to Flex but refuses to launch WSJTX. I see no errors. Slicemaster thinks it launched WSJTX but nothing happens. No error detected. This started with the new Firmware

In order to launch, SliceMaster needs the following satisfied (I think)
- Radio is connected with a valid client
- Mode is DIGU
- DAX is running and connected
- Slice has a TX Focus - I get caught on this at times where TX focus is off
If all that is satisfied, check with Don.

what is TX Focus. Not something I’ve had to setup previously
0 -
At least 1 slice must have the red TX flag on it, if it doesn't click on TX on the slice you want to use.

I tried that no change
Will not launch Slicemaster.
this is quite important to me as running multiple instances of WSJTX is the main reason I bought the radio. I’m sure hoping someone reaches out to the developers. I can never get a response from them.Peter

Thanks Mike for your message…….
But the requirements you listed are active and work with firmware version 3.9.19, and the same settings should work with version 3.10.10. Unfortunately, Slice-master doesn't work, and the errors are the ones I reported in my first message.
So I understand that the software needs to be implemented and improved, but never before has this happened to me with other radio management programs so many times and as often as with the Flexradio firmware update.
There are always some problems with new releases, unfortunately.
I've already sent an email to Donald K1DBO, indicating the errors.
What I don't understand, however, is why with your Flexradio 8.600, Slice-master seems to work with firmware 3.10.10, while with my 6.600, it doesn't.
I hope Don K1DBO can check and fix the problem; we'll see...
I'm waiting confidently...73 Alex ik5pwj0 -
Thanks for sharing that info Alex. Those screenshots should help us. Our software team is happy to work with developers like Don to help figure this out.

I'm having the same problem with Slice Master 6000 [v0.11.0g] when I upgraded to SmartSDR 3.10.10. I ended up downgrading to 3.9.19 and things worked the first time I started Slice Master. I hope the developer(s) of Slice Master and SmartSDR can work together. I use both applications on a daily basis.0

Hello, unfortunately, I also had some problems when installing 3.10.10 on the FLEX 8400M, but now it's working. The Slicemaster also works, but it no longer starts the CW Skimmer, which always worked fine before. Does anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like the same issue that SEVERAL other 3rd Party programs have had with SmartSDR 3.10.10, What has been talked about is that they changed the format that the I/O or VITA49 has but no official word from Flex yet. MOST of the 3rd party software writers have modified there code and Drivers to work with the changes that FLEX has done now . I have also heard a rumor that FLEX is working on a fix for this to but that is only a rumor.
Check with the Slicemaster writer he may have a program update to fix the issue.

But why does it work for me and probably others.

I’ll say this for the fourth time good luck getting in touch with the guy who wrote Slicemaster. I’ll wait a week if no luck I’ll sell my 8600 and move on

Dear johnn1jm, as lapidary as an undertaker, without specifying anything.
Slice-AMster starts as a program but if you don't say which application you use with slice-master?
What's your answer?
I also have the 6600 with Windows 11 but it doesn't work the same as yours....
Be more specific!!!
Which program do you start with slice-masterJtdx Wsjtdx cwskimmer ...do these work?
I have doubts.

Hello, I have the same issue as Alex IK5PWJ has posted. Back to version 3.9.19 resolves the problem. 730

What I don't understand, however, is why with your Flexradio 8.600, Slice-master seems to work with firmware 3.10.10, while with my 6.600, it doesn't.
I think it is important to say this to show that it isn't a problem with all users, just some users. If it is just some users you need to dig a bit deeper to find out what is different.

In my case, I am using Windows 10 PRO with an 8600. Maybe it is related to either the radio model or if you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11. It might be worthwhile to add a little colour.
@W2PP You can run multiple versions of WSJT without using SliceMaster. It is just a bit more painful to setup, but you only have to do it once.

Mike, I have the 8400M and WIN 11Pro. Slicemaster runs there but does not open the CW Skimmer automatically.

Alex,
I use WSJT-X and JTDX and they work.

ok Mike point me to the instructions to run multiple copies of WSJTX. If it’s a pain times once. I can live with that

I traded emails with Don from SliceMaster — he is 99% off the grid at the moment but he is back in a week or so.
BTW, the product is open sourced, so some smart programming might be able to fix it before then if they wish.

did he say he’d fix this? It’s somewhat implied by your post which would be good

Mike, SliceMaster doesn't seem to be open source as I've looked through Don's GitHub repository and the only zip file I found labeled as source only contains a readme file and a folder with dozens of images in it.
If the source code was anywhere to be found, I could probably fix the issue in short order.

VA3MW, I have to dispute your assertion that slice master works with 3.10.10
It may be that your setup works but I can say it does not with mine.
I often see posts were someone is having an issue and other simply say, "It's good here" , that's not very helpful. The guy obviously needs assistance not a " you're doing something wrong" and I'll guess he knows to reach out to the programmer, he just thought maybe someone had figured it out and he could avoid slamming the programmer. I know I try not to.
I rolled back to 3.9.18 and all works so I'll stick there for now. My hobby is Radio not software so I'll wait for the computer guys to figure this one out.

I say it as a data point only. There is a big difference in a problem if only a few people have it and everyone has it. It is a critical piece of information.
One customer reinstalled SliceMaster and it started to work.
I'm not sure where to go next to resolve it since I can't recreate the problem, so I have no idea where to look. The developer is aware of it and I reached out to him on his personal email address.
Like you say, it is a hobby. Nothing is mission critical and rolling back to the working version takes about 3 minutes.

Yes, Mike, that's fine, although resetting takes at least 6 minutes for me hi, but with version 3.9.19, the Winkeyer still doesn't recognize spaces in text modules, which means it's not very useful with logging programs, etc.

The Winkeyer issue sounds like a separate problem. Can you please document how to recreate that and open a support ticket please so that it gets reported to engineering correctly. We appreciate you mentioning it here so others are aware of it.
Engineering determines the urgency of bug fixes based on how much they affect the installed base and overall operations. The Support Ticketing system is the only reliable way to track these issues. In most cases, software bugs can only be resolved once the failure mechanism has been reproduced and isolated on an engineer’s test system.
