Flex 6400M Stand Alone?

Hello
Since I am still a novice when it comes to Flexradio, here is a question:
I want to operate my Flex 6400M as a “stand alone” transceiver, i.e. without a PC and Smart SDR.
But how can I access the various serial ports, WSJT, Logger32?

Good question. This is called a Link.Local connection.
This is very easy to do. You will still need a PC to run WSJT, etc. And, you will need to install SmartSDR CAT and DAX on the PC.
Turn off the radio and the PC. Connect a single LAN Cable from the radio to the PC.
Turn on both.
Start SmartSDR CAT and DAX on the PC and connect to the radio with the radio chooser. Start your programs like you did before assuming you had used other PC programs before. They work exactly the same.
Good luck.

Hi Mike,
Well, it doesn't work for me. I have a somewhat difficult setup here with
Mac Mini - Parallels Desktop with WIN 10
The problem is that Parallels Desktop with WIN 10 does not recognize the Ethernet interface (For PC to 6400M direkt).
That's why I have no choice but to use SmartSDR 3.9.19.
Actually, I don't want to use digital modes, as there are easier ways, but only a CAT connection for the logbook program (frequency tracking).
When SmartSDR is running, I can no longer use the 6400M as a standalone device. Or I don't know how. Everything runs via SmartSDR...
It's a shame that the 6400M doesn't have a built-in CAT option. This makes things complicated.

I think you are trying to pound a round peg into a square hole. :)
The Ethernet port is heart of the radio communication. It is a must have to make the eco-system work.
I don’t know anything about parallels, so I can’t help you with any ethernet plumbing. I am a bit surprised that you have a roadblock in that era.
Possibly, someone else can help you out.
Let us know how you make out.

Hi Daniel
i see you are running a Mac Mini…i may be able to help you get wsjtx running and use the slices on the main screen of the 6400m using native mac apps called xdax and xcat.
you will also need to get app called loopback for a few $$
aLSO
since you are running a mac i would recommend a mac based logger either rumlog or macloggerDX
I run Macloggerdx (mldx) cost a few$$ by don agro makes great hamradio mac s/w
there is dl3sm s/w for dax/ cat functions
xdax and xcat from dl3sm
download from here
these are mac version of dax/cat
loopback is from rogue amoeba for audio routing control between apps
xdax may require some terminal command it get it initially running due to microphone privacy control in
latest macos ( 15.x)
so setup process of xdax depends on macos you are running.
i have various mac's with different macos's so i may be able to walk you thru
so let me know what macos and if intel processor or apple silicone ( m1. m1 .m3 . ….m4 …or such)
i will do my best to help
i run a 6600m using the two slices on its main panel and interface those slice to wsjtx, fldigi using those three apps
RHR has info using remote flex radio on their system with macs …there is good info there to give background setting up mac with flex
if you need more help i will do my best to help here

you mentioned terminal commands to give xDAX access to the Mac OS microphone. Mine appears blocked.
I have a MacBook Air, M4…..any suggestion on the terminal command?
Also, I cannot get the CAT to work on the loopback, 127.0.0.1:xxxx address. I was able to use my windows CAT on another PC to my Mac WSJT no issues. I checked the local network permissions, and xCAT is enabled.

xcat does not need loopback but do need the audio from wsjtx to be routed to loopback
this get audio for transmit
select this loopback device in xdax for
the 192.168.1.26:5006 is ipa on my mba for xcat and you can see this setting in wsjtx for cat interface fro rig control
tyhe above shot is for audio routing for wsjtx
i think these screen shots will help
