VOX and DAX

Since my Radio is 6 feet from me and I use VOX, I was leaving DAX on all the time because I would forget to start it for digital. So Friday I'm doing some setup for N1MM for the CQ WW VHF contest. Setting my VOX up for rapid fire contesting I couldn't get the VOX to drop fast enough.

Next I turn of DAX off and after that VOX would drop when my last symbols are said.

Since I use VOX how is hook up a foot switch?

    1) Create two different Mic Profiles - One for SSB and the other for "DIGITAL"

    • Be sure always to use "DIGU" Mode whenever using Digital Modes (In WSJT-X, select "Data/PKT" in the "MODE" box.)
    • When using SSB, select your SSB Mic Profile, which has DAX Disabled.
    • When using DIGU Mode, Use the DIGITAL Mic Profile, which has DAX Enabled.

Once you have selected these different Mic Profiles while using the proper mode, the radio will remember which Mic Profile is used with each mode, and will automatically select the proper Mic Profile for each mode. This is one of the nice features of the FlexRadio. It makes is easy, once you learn to drive it.

    2) If you are having trouble with the Vox Hang-time (VOX Delay being too long, be sure that you have the Delays set up properly in the SmartSDR > "Settings > Radio Setup > TX" tab

and in the VOX Settings in the "Radio Controls" panel.

and in the N1MM+ PTT Delay configuration.

    3) To set up a footswitch for the radio — Connect to the PTT RCA Jack on the back of the radio.
