Something to Check Before First "Power Up"

I received my new 8600 this week and set it up yesterday, but prior to connecting it, I noticed an oddity with the power cable. The PowerPole terminals on one end were reversed, such that the red wire was connected to the red pol and the black connected to the black pole.

Of course, the "fix" was easy (less than a minute) to swap their positions. Being one to check everything several times before connection and subsequent powering up, it was a matter of checking and measuring twice after noticing the cable connection on the cable did not color-match those on the radio.

I was going to edit my post to clarify the "terminals on one end were reversed", but was unable to do so. It should read they were electrically correct but physically reversed. As from the manufacturer, plugging one end into the radio placed "black on red" and "red on black". The other end of the cable was assembled correctly, but the cable as received would have provided a reverse in polarity and likely a blown internal fuse. The Astron RS-35A would not likely have "crowbarred" to protect the fuse.

OK, thanks for the clarification; I was confused…easy to do!

I believe the edit feature is available for an hour.

By the way, the crowbar function of a power supply is to short the output of the power supply when an over voltage condition occurrs. If an over current condition exists, most power supplies are designed to foldback the voltage.

Thanks, I passed it on to our Operations team and they will discuss it with their supplier.

No excuse, we should have caught it as well. Paul tells me they have added it to their final QA checklist.

Maybe the supplier provides power cables for Apache Labs and the Anan radios. Their Power Pole connectors are reversed from standard practice. Not only are they reversed, they are upside down compared to other companies that use Power Pole connectors.

Our cables are made by various contractors and our operations team is now aware of this. I talked to Paul about it and I could hear him roll his eyes at this with the same feeling any of us would have… "how card could it be". :)

Again, we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
