Is there a remote way to turn the DC power on to the 8600M?
I have installed a Wi-Fi powerstrip that turns on the DC power supply that powers the 8600M. After applying the DC power to the 8600M I have found that I have to press the momentary switch to start the rig. Is there a way I can turn on the 8600M remotely? I have a Maestro that I use to remotely to operate the 8600M and it seems counter intuitive that I must go local to the rig to turn it on, something I never thought of until I purchased the Wi-Fi powerstrip.

Flex sells a complete kit to turn the radio on and off remotely.

Hi David, there is a REM ON jack on the back of your rig that can be used to remotely turn your radio on and off. I use this device in my shack. I use channel 4 to power the rig on and off and channels 1 - 3 to control an antenna switch.
Check out section 19.6.4 of the new Flex-8000 Hardware Reference Manual for more info on using the REM ON jack.
By the way, you should always power the radio off using the front panel button or the REM ON jack before turning off the power supply. Otherwise, you run the risk of corrupting the SD card. It is the same thing as powering off a computer gracefully before pulling power.

To follow on. When you use the Remote ON/OFF RCA connector, it completely shutsdown the radio cleanly.
The only part running is a small Power Control PIC.
Imagine your TV when you turn it off. Same idea.

Hi Mike,
The FlexRadio Remote On Plug and Play Kit (V2) comes with 4 items including an AC adapter to USB recepticle (assumed) and RCA PigTail to connect to the 8600M. If I plug the microUSB to USB A cable into a USB charging slot on my Wi-Fi powerstrip can I plug it into the MHCOZY TYWB 4CH remote switch to supply the power it requires and not use the AC adapter to USB recepticle?

Hi David
Yes, the MHCozy is a 5V device and it really isn't fussy where it gets its power from as long as it is reliable.
If you turn off the WiFi power ****, then the MHCozy will go offline. If that works for you, then you are good to go.

David,
The smart switch should have dry contacts on it, so it doesn't matter.

I didn’t think the 8000 series incorporated an SD card.
Correct. No SD card in the 8000 series. Having said that, it is still a good idea to power the radio down before dropping power as there is still a storage device in the mix.

When attaching the RCA PigTail to the 8600M what terminals do the black and red wires connect to on the smart switch. BTW, last night I ordered the FlexRadio Approved Remote On Plug and Play Kit (V2). Hope to see you at Dayton.
