How to connect Mic to Flex 8600

Options

I just received my FLex 8600. The Mic that came with it has a 1/8" connector and an RCA connector. I get that the 1/8" plug goes into the mic connector at rear of radio. Where do you connect the RCA connector? This is completely different from my 6700 radio and Mic.

There is a RCA connector on the rear of the radio labeled PTT. Plug it into that connection.

It is in the hardware manual.

Just got my 8600 also. I think they could have put a Mic jack on the front without detracting from the clean design. I like playing with different mics otherwise why bother having all those Mic profiles in SmartSDR? Seems like a very bad design decision. Wish I had recognized that earlier.

Would require two mic connectors and a PTT connector on the front. Would also require a different arrangement for the 8600M.

I like to experiment with different mics too, so I just made a short extension cable from the rear around to the front, using mic adaptors where needed.

    Just a piece of advice..

If you are extending cables, which is ok, I highly recommend adding some Mix 31 or Mix 43 chokes to the cables to limit RFI pickup in both RX and TX. You can hide the chokes around back. I would especially do this if you are buying cables from Amazon.

I also recommend using "Right-angle" connectors to avoid torquing the connector in the back of the radio. One clumsy "trip" or accidental pull on the mic cable can lead to a repair bill. The Right-angle connector reduces this possibility.
