3.8.23 Install all good

Member, Super Elmer Moderator

I just installed 3.8.23 on my 6400 and the installation went very smoothly. No issues with SmartSDR or any of my utilities or homebrew devices using the API. So far so good!

Same here. No issues after doing a cold boot following installation. Unfortunately, the Release Notes are not the ones for this version.

According to change log , it appears only a single bug was fixed. What is the deal?

    Same here. No issues.

The number of issues with the install is one less than the number of bug fixes. As Dan says, there appears to be just the one. Despite successive updates to 3.8, I still have the problem of tune in RTTY mode being 2 kHz above the operating frequency. Years ago, I used to be perplexed at how few updates there were but lately these are more frequent, which ought to be an improvement, but they do not deal with the problems.

I just don’t understand, there is obviously a known list of outstanding bugs. Why not fix them and put out a more substantial release. Weird.

Hi Dan and Erik… I tend to agree. It would appear this release was simply to 'put out a fire'. I'm hoping the next 'sub-major' release (3.9.x) will include some of the bug fixes and simple feature changes that have been on the waiting list for a looooonnnnngggg time…..

I did check, and the release notes are accurate.

There have been no new software features from Flex for years an occasional bug fix here and there. Looking now at purchasing a new rig and I don't think it will be a Flex just for that reason. . . . Good luck with the updates.

Just a few months ago we finally got a All Voice Mode Squelch. Years late, but it finally happened. I figure that once I receive my new 8600M in a few months ( after trading in my 6600M) that in a few more months, years, ( take your pick) improved noise reduction will appear. The real question will be, for me, will I be above ground to enjoy it??

I have thousands of dollars invested in Flex equipment. Yet I can't use the NR and ANF at the same time or I lose receive audio. From my perspective. it doesn't seem as though that is priority at all for Flex. Though for me it's a top priority. And, yes I know I can put up a TNF. By the time one is set the offending heterodyne is gone. I don't want hear it at all. I also don't want to hear all the background hiss. That's why I use noise reduction all the time.

    I'll quit grumbling now.
