Just loaded 3.8.20 on my 6600. No issues.

Same as Mick, no issues with my 6400. I did notice that my CW Delay went to zero, but I'm not sure if that was a result of the upgrade or if it was self-inflicted at some point. I help quite a few hams locally with their Flex radios (and occasionally others) and may have done that as I was walking someone through the functionality of the radio.

Upgrade itself had no issues and worked on the first try. SmartSDR, all utilities and homebrew Flex-connected gear are all working great.

unable to download. It comes up with site not found. Either a server issue or too many people downloading??

Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.

We can’t connect to the server at smartsdr.flexradio.com.

If you entered the right address, you can:

    • Try again later
    • Check your network connection
    • Check that Firefox has permission to access the web (you might be connected but behind a firewall)

Updated my 6600M. No issues. Don't really know if anything in this update was for the 6000 radios.

If you are having an issue download, can you provide me the link you are using and where you got it from please so I can figure out the problem.

It runs on AWS, so it is pretty hard to have an overload issue.

3.8.20 Install performed seamlessly on the Flex 6600.

One ODD observation was a type of "OVERLOAD CRACKLE noise from WNB"
All cleared up by clicking on: BAND, then selecting 2200.

    DETAILS:
Prior to this resolve the WNB ( turned on) would create an OVERLOAD CRACKLE noise & waterfall display crackling from -110 to -95 signal static across all frequencies below 1.7Mhz

By switching WNB OFF and then ON - WNB performance was fine for a few seconds then the issue would build up and return. This observation was most prominent below 1.7Mhz

Rebooting everything, changing WNB level settings, swapping antennas, changing ANT gain, zooming IN/OUT bandwidth, ALL.. had no effect to correct the observed issue.

Quite by accident trying anything... "by selecting BAND 2200" - the OVERLOAD CRACKLE noise disappeared and has not returned.

Hope this helps if anyone else is observing the same.
The upgrade has very noticeable improvements - well worth performing.

What level did you have you WNB set to? It sounds like you had it turned up pretty high.

The WNB is only for a specific type of repetitive noise (you can read more in the SmartSDR manual) and it samples the entire HF spectrum and then cancels the noise and you are left with what you want to hear.

Are you dealing with a repetitive type of AC arcing noise? If not, then the WNB should be left off.

It appears you are correct. In version 3.8.20 when WNB is left OFF… hearing only what I want to hear is clear of any artifacts. Many thanks for the tip!

With on-board GPS/NTP, 4x increase in CPU and 2x increase in FPGA and 16bit IQ… the 8600 has my attention for trading in my 1 year old 6600. Thinking it over?

  • I've done many updates to my 6400 but I cannot figure this one out: all I can see is a word file and a pdf file. I can't find an installer. What am I missing?

  • Brian, I saw the same thing…. Just scroll down a bit further. You will see the download.
