Fans come on regularly

My FlexRadio 6400 seems to turn the fans on quite regularly even though I am only receiving. Is this something that can be adjusted. I run MacOS smartSDR and it shows a temp of 28 deg C. Fans come on even with no smartlink connections to it.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Hi Jack… my gut tells me (if your temp readings are correct) that there may be a problem wtih the sensor or the fans themselves. I would suggest opening a Help Desk Ticket and let them help you through diagnosis.

The fans are used to cool many things, including the FPGA and other Processors. If they start to do work, they may require cooling even in RX. This can also happen if the interior of the radio has not been vacuumed or cleaned out at all. You may want to open it up and have a look.

The 28C value you see is for the TX PA, not the other devices in the radio.

SmartLink would not have an impact at all for extra cooling. That is just an additional user connection.

If it really seems excessive, it is possible the fan might just be more noisy that it was and that is possibly what you are hearing.
