Maestro A/B and SSDR 3.9 and beyond

Will SmartSDR 3.9 forward work on a Model A or B Maestro? I just received my 8400 and I kinda miss my knobs. I'd rather not spend the extra money for a C model if the B/A will work.

    Yes, it all works. I have a Maestro B and it works fine with the 8600.

    HI Ed, it is almost a certainty that the earlier models of the Maestro will continue to be supported. The radio is a server and the Maestro is a GUI client (as is SmartSDR). All clients use the Flex API to communicate with and control the server. All of the "radio stuff" happens in the radio. The GUI clients just present the data to the user (panadapter, control panels, audio, etc.) and take input from the user to control the radio. So even with new technology in the radio, the interface (API) does not need to change.

    Other than adding new API calls to support new functionality, the very stable, well-tested API is not going anywhere anytime soon.

    I built my API-based TeensyMaestro a few years ago and have not had to change it over the course of many software revisions (other than fixing my own bugs…).

    Yes, the Maestro B will work with 3.9 and there should be no reason it will not beyond v4 and above.

    @Alan Thanks, but I am wondering if a B will work with 3.9 or even v4.0 when it comes out.

    KA9EES,

    Mike answered your question. He is a employee of Flex Radio. So he should know. As others mentioned the Maestro is a self contained computer that runs SmartSDR. The radio sees it just like your Windows pc running SmartSDR or SmartSDR on a MAC using iOS. As long as the software version in the Maestro is the same as installed in the radio, the Maestro will work fine. And Mike did say v3.9.x and v4.x will run on older Maestros. The only way that can change is if there is something in a new version that only works with both the new radios and the new Maestro C. But, since the Maestro is only a control and display interface, and does not process things like Noise reduction that is done in the radio itself, there should be no problem using a older Maestro.

    @Trucker Thanks James,

    It's something I should have known to begin with. It's just a client like my iPad. Thanks to everyone for all the help. I'll have to keep an eye out for a B model.
