Fresh SSDR install for incoming 8600?

My 6500 is on its way home to Austin while I await my 8600. In the meantime, is there any benefit to doing a complete uninstallation of SSDR and then start with a fresh install? I doubt if this is required, but all the same maybe there’s some benefit to a fresh start.

    No. Not at all.

Each installation of SmartSDR is a unique installation (or program).

This is why you can run past versions of SmartSDR safely if you want to change versions.

The 8000 series will start at SmartSDR 3.8. And, 3.8 will run on all other 6000 series radios.

So on this topic … Flex's last public comment on this said they're holding to their most recent forecast of starting shipping 8XXX this month. There have been a few reports of folks getting invoices which would seem to indicate that they will indeed meet that.

Will Flex release v3.8 to the rest of us at the same time it starts shipping 8XXX ? Or maybe a bit before since presumably it will need to be in a releasable state to load into 8XXXs before shipping ?

actually I think they extended it a couple three weeks from when the first invoices where sent out so the middle of October at last word from Flex.

As far as Ver3.8, that is what the hold up has been on the radios I think with the Alpha team has busy working on.

Hummm … Ok Bret, thanks. In the past when they slipped like that Matt sent out an update and if he did this time I missed it (which wouldn't be too surprising). Also not surprising that the s/w-f/w is the hold up. If they make mid October its not too bad a hold up at that. I've said it many times, at least as far as I'm concerned I'm happy for Flex to work on s/w-f/w for as long as they want to. As long as they're actually working on it. I'm not interested in the 8XXX myself until they come up with an 8-slice version but as far as v3.8, I'm really looking forward to it.

I read a post on Facebook with a copy of the email concerning shipping. If Flex Radio sticks with their original statement that shipping "should " start 30 days after the buyer receives ( and pays) final billing, and from the dates of several people posting they had received their final invoice, it would appear that actual shipping should start happening in mid-October. ( given the dates posted by several buyers) Also, the email ( from Matt ) stated that the M model radios should follow three weeks or slightly longer afterwards as they were waiting for their manufacturing partner to take care of a few things first.

So, mid-October for the non-M model radios and sometime in November ( or later) for the M model radios. Not too bad. When the 6400/M and 6600/M were announced in May 2017 at Dayton, they were supposed to ship in August 2017. I ordered my 6600M the Monday after Dayton. Had my trade-in sent in and the balance paid before August 2017 in anticipation of getting my new radio. I, (along with all the other early buyers ) didn't receive my 6600M until the end of February 2018. So, if Flex Radio manages to get them out by mid-October and the M models by late November, that will be an improvement.

In my experience, the only new radio that Flex Radio has ever had immediately available when announced at Dayton was the 6300. Those sold out quickly. ( they only had 200 ready to sell and ship) I wasn't quick enough to purchase and got on the waiting list for the next batch. Fortunately, a ham in Louisiana bought a new 6300 and then found a deal on a 6500. I bought his which had 22 months left on the transferable warranty. ( and canceled the 6300 I had on order)

Good luck to all the new 8000 buyers.
