TX relay on 6300

Just purchased a 6300 from a friend (he will refund my money if necessary) and it works perfectly if not using an amp. Once the TX is connected to the amp, the amp is immediately keyed. Even if the radio is turned off and I connect the TX jack to the amp it keys the amp.

Seems like a stuck relay, but I would like to hear what you guys think. Other than this problem, it is a great radio.

Hi Roger, Under Settings, TX tab check to see if the RCA polarity needs to be changed. If it is currently Active Low, try Active High.

Thanks for the info. On the 6300, it doesn’t have the same screen as yours. Only has way to change the Accessory, not the Tx.

You might want to open a Help Desk ticket. It may well be a setting somewhere that is causing your problem.

Len, that polarity is only for that TX-REQ jack.

It would help to know what Amp you are using Roger

I am using Mercury IIIs. It works well with other radios. I might add that it works well with another 6300 and 6400M.

    Roger:

The Flex 6000 series radios will key an amp with a positive open circuit voltage. Make sure your amp has a positive voltage. The TX output spec is Max input voltage is +40 VDC @ 140 milliamp current.

To test your 6300 output, connect a VOM (voltage scale) with the TX key line RCA jack, (+ side of the meter the center conductor and the black lead to chassis ground), verify that there zero volts present, change the meter to a low ohms scale the output should measure open, key the Flex the meter should read near a short.

If above is OK the check the interface cable.

    hope this helps 73

If the Mercury works with other 6000 radios and not with this one, then it sounds like TX port has been damaged. It will have to come in for repair. This can happen when an older amplifier was used that had a 120V keying line.

I assume you have reset the radio just to be sure that did not resolve the issue?

Mike, I bought a 6400 through you several years ago and really enjoy Flex radios. I did reset it and that didn't cure the problem. As I said in my original post, I have the option of returning the radio to the person I got it from or having it repaired at his expense. He wants to know if there is any way to get an estimate of the cost to repair it, knowing what the problem is.

The only way to get some sort of estimate is to open a support case.

However, the estimate will just be a guess at best and the final amount will not be determined until it is fully fixed.

It will likely cost at minimum 1 hour labour to do the evaluation first (sorry, I do not know the hourly rate).

(sorry I missed the reset part)
