My Heil headset and Maestro "C"

So how do I connect the mike on my Heil headset to the new Maestro "C" model ? Do I need an adapter?

I surely don't want to spend more money due to the cost of the Maestro.

There is a solution to this already discussed on the Maestro area.

The Heil MIC is a TS (mono) connector and the input to the Y cable is a TRS (stereo). When you plug the Heil headset into the Y cable, it shorts the MIC input and you get no audio out.

That means that if you need to an adapter that ensures this doesn't happen. They are often called a mono-stereo adapter and you can find them on Amazon.

Personally, I had cut off my 1/8" Mono on my ProSet and replaced it with a 1/8" TRS using Tip and Shield. I had found that the 1/8" connectors that Heil used were pretty flakey anyway, or the cables are, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

Now that they make 1/8" TRS with **** down binding connections that could be another option if you are so included to do that.

yes, you need both using a Heil headset. Using the Stock FHM-3 Flex hand mic does not require the stereo to mono adapter.

Heil tested their mics and headsets at our booth at Xenia.

no, either the Stereo Y cable or the adapter (not both).

Or, you just change the connector. :)

Hi Ken, the HDST (Headset) connector is for both the Mic and Phones. It is a 4 connector (TRRS) CTIA connector. If your headset has separate phones and mic connectors, you will need a Y cable that separates the phones and mic into two jacks (Flex sells such a Y cable). The Y cable must adhere to the CTIA (not OMTP) standard to work properly. I think that you also need a stereo to mono adapter for the Heil mics (see above).

    Idea #2

This should work as well. I have not personally tested it, but it makes sense. I am posting the picture so that others world wide can find it.

Let me apologize for being so "dense", but I'm not understanding how I connect to the Maestro at all.

My Heil headset has two connectors. One for the head phones and the other for the "mike'….if I plug the headphone connector into "HDST" the audio comes through fine. If I plug the mike plug into PTT, it automatically goes into transmit. If I use the "Y" adapter and plug into "HDST", still hear the audio fine, but not transmit.

Please help me understand better. I'm an appliance operator.

    Thanks

use the Y cable Flex sells along with the adapter from Amazon (Mike posted a link).

Your Heil headset plug goes into headset side of Y cable. The mic plug of Heil goes into Amazon adapter. The Amazon adapter goes into MIC side of Y cable. The male plug of Y cable plugs into headset jack on Maestro.

If you look at the Y cable, the male plug is a TRRS (4 connections). It uses standard CTIA wiring. You can Google CTIA TRRS.

Thanks for the replies. I believe the "Y" cable I have is not CTIA compliant, so I ordered the correct one. Also good to know where it gets plugged in.

    Thanks again es 73

I just wanted to thank everyone for jumping in to help. With the correct CTIA compliant "Y" adapter AND the stereo to mono adapter, it is working FB now with good audio reports.

Thank you again and 73 !
