Maestro VFO Stutters And Doesn't Keep Up

Hi group,

Is anyone that owns the Maestro C noticing a stutter or a delay when spinning the VFO. It seems to do it the longer I use the maestro in a session. It's similar to using the old PC problem when the computer didn't have enough physical RAM when it start using virtual memory (the hard drive) which is much slower and would slow down the computer. And before anyone suggests my network, I'm not using the WiFi option. Rather I have it connected to my gigabit switch with an RJ45 cable. The responsiveness is great running both the PC and MAC versions of SmartSDR on my computers connected to my same home network. I'm current on all the software versions too.

Is anyone having a similar experience?

try connecting the maestro direct to the flex radio, bypassing the switch. Some gig switches don’t perform well on this application.

In your Display settings Reduce the "FPS" to slow down the Panadapter and "Rate" to slow down the Waterfall will help a bunch, the default is Higher / faster then it needs to be.

The Waterfall takes quite a bit of horse power away from the Tablet in the Maestro A and B and so it starts stuttering.

And as John said find a OLD 100MB ethernet switch and connect it between your gigabit Router and the Maestro and see if that makes a difference, The Maestro A and B Tablet doesn't have what ever it takes to throttle back the Ethernet when the Ethernet starts to choke from what I can remember.

    Hi David

We are finding some Gig routers are, well, ****. You don't mention the model you are using.

The symptom you describe is related to a problem in the network communications between the Maestro and the Radio (glad to hear you ruled out WiFi).

Our guess is that it is related to the router doing auto-negotiating over and over and this causes pauses in the data flow. This can be referred to as flapping.

If you can, as a test, can you switch the switch to another higher quality switch or even try a 100mb switch and see if the problem goes away?
