TGXL Antenna Port Default Status When Not Powered Up?

I just received my TGXL 1x3. It will take me awhile to acquire a PC in order to configure the unit in my Mac shack. In the meantime I'm wondering if I can go ahead and route my antenna connections through the unit. Specifically, by default when unpowered/unconfigured, is the TX input and one of the ANT outputs open, or shorted (as in the PGXL)? I guess another way of asking this is if the unit must be powered on in order to activate the ByPass (Standby) mode? I didn't find any discussion of this in my first read through of the manual.

I have the 1X3 Tuner. I certainly can answer what happens if you do not have the unit powered up. All connections will go to ground or at least when I shut mine off, all signals go away. Suggest Powering the unit up and see what preset Antenna Position is (1,2,or 3). Hook up accordingly. You can then press the "Tune" Button (Right of LCD Screen). If you have the coaxes attached properly, you unit should at least tune that configuration. Good Luck and get that computer. In todays radio world and equipment a computer is a must. Enjoy!

On the SO2R the antenna connections are maintained and not grounded.

I don't have a 1x3 to test with, but you can easily test by hooking up an antenna and see what you hear by testing each antenna port.

Thank you both for your prompt and very helpful responses. I was afraid that the tuner would be unusable until I configured it; or that somehow I'd risk damaging it. Now I know better. What a great community!

generally, you really have to work hard to damage something today. :)

Even a bad SWR will not break a transmitter on any radio built in the last 20 years.

I know. I've tried many times!
