AA1SS For remote operation I setup my Power Genius (PGXL) with the Internet IP address just like I did for the FlexRadio itself. I also had to create a new port forwarding rule in my home router just for the PGXL. I’m forwarding TCP port 9008 from the Internet to my local IP address of my PGXL. So the Internet IP address and TCP port is set in the Remote TAB of the FlexRadio Power Genius Utility.

    Thanks for the info . . . I'll give it a shot

In the port forwarding settings of the router, is the WAN port the same as the forward port?

Say, for the AGXL, the forward port is 9007 and the WAN port is also 9007?

Example: For my Flex 6400 TCP, the WAN port is 21000 and my forward port is 4994.

K5PO FYI My forwarding rules just forward external ports (from any IP address) to the internal IP address of the FlexRadio system. I would assume that the external port number gets forwarded as the same port number to my internal address. This is the forwarding rules I have.

For SmartLink to my FlexRadio 6000.

Forward TCP port 4994 to the FlexRadio 6000 internal IP address.

Forward UPD port 4993 to the FlexRadio 6000 internal IP address.

For my Tuner Genius XL port forward

Forward TCP port 9010 to the Tuner Genius XL internal IP address.

Forward UDP port 9010 to the Tuner Genius XL internal IP address.

For my Power Genius XL port forward. (This one only needed TCP port forwarded)

Forward TCP port 9008 to the Power Genius XL internal IP address.

I don't have the Antenna Switch so I'm not familiar with its port forwarding requirements.

I don't know why FlexRadio needs port forwarding rules in my router. I control my Hue lights and power controllers, August locks, my elink remote ON-OFF controller for my FlexRadio, outside my house on the internet all without any port forwarding rules. Those system are far easier for remote access because I didn't have to make any strange changes.

The reason the FlexRadio needs 2 ports open is so that we can provide the lowest latency and secure connection possible between the end user and the radio.

Your Hue lights connect to an intermediate server and they do not have to provide millisecond response.

Give this some thought to something that might be easy to manage in the long term. And you don't need to be a network guru to make it work.

To get around the port forwards for all the other 4O3A devices, consider using TailScale. It is very easy to setup by installing a few Tailscale clients.

    • Install a client on your operating computer
    • Install a client on a the computer where all your applications are
    • Do a small configuration on the TailScale webpage

You still need those 2 ports for the FlexRadio for SmartLink to work.

Now you have a secure connection to your network.

I'm really impressed with how easy it was.

Thanks Mike VA3MW for your response and explanation for the port forwarding rule requirement. That makes sense. Now that I understand the reasoning behind that requirement - Thanks!

Your videos on YouTube was the reason I decided to purchase FlexRadio for my retirement phase of my life and I saw how easy to run remote to the radio it is for FlexRadio products. I still appreciate the YouTube videos and your expertise on how to do the things I want to do with my FlexRadio gear - Thanks.

I use my IOS ipad and use SmartSDR software from Marcus Roskosch that also works correctly through the port forwarding rules. Thanks for the info about the tailscale software… I will do further research into the product…
