Why does my 6500 restart when a remote multiflex user attempts to connect?

So I've just upgraded to v3 (3.7.3) from v2 so that a buddy in Florida can play with my radio while I'm using it. I installed SSDR v3 and the firmware a week ago and everything seems ok. My friend installed SSDR v3 on his PC today and I gave him my smartlink credentials. He was able to logon ok and the chooser window immediately enumerated my radio. But when he attempted to connect the radio did an immediate reset, and my SSDR session closed with the usual "lost connection" message as did his. In my case SSDR restarted automatically and was fine and connected to the radio. But he stayed in a lost connection state. When he dismissed that message SSDR restarted and smartlink again showed my radio in his chooser window. A total cold start of the radio had no effect. The problem is consistent after five attempts.

I've been through the multiflex history on the forum but couldn't find any hints.

Thoughts, anyone?
