New SmartSDR for Mac user with questions on startup and connecting a keyer

I have been working through various new user problems, all of which are, of course, user errors, but I haven't been able to solve one minor issue. On startup is the message "You are currently not connected; click here to connect." When I do, the box that says "Starting SDR" pops up and immediately disappears without giving me time to choose my radio. The workaround is to go to SmartSDR/ Settings, click Available Radios, and then connect to my radio. Any ideas on why this is happening?

I may switch to Smart SDR for Mac totally if I can figure out how to connect my keyer for CW operation. I am operating the radio remotely. Thanks, Ed K5YZW
