PGXL and TGXL With Yaesu 710 as backup

Trying to interface my 710 with the TGXL and PGXL for backup. The manuals say to hook the PTT device to the tuner or amp in which is my foot switch and the ptt out goes to the exciter to key it. That is fine but what do you do if you have both.

Do you take the PTT out of the tuner and connect it to the exciter and then hook up the radio's linear key line to the pgxl PTT in.

Best solution is build an RCA A/B switch box. I’ve seen them on Amazon but haven’t looked recently.

One solution would be the W2IHY iPlus box which can switch PTT in, mic, Amp Out (tuner PTT), and speakers. I’ve used it before when I had a mix of radios in the shack.

I did beta testing of the Amp/tuner single CAT/CI-V integration. It works well.

Make sure you use Power Genius 3.8.4 and Tuner Genius 1.1.20 or newer firmware. Also in the tuner Genius integration tab you enter the PG XL info for only the port that is non-Flex.

The above comment on version of firmware or newer was added since someone may see this post further “down the road”.

Would the 4O3A 2 Radio 1 Amp box work in your situation? You can order directly from 4O3A

The 4O3A box will not share a common foot switch.

I don't know why I would have to buy all these optional devices . . . Doesn't the tuner and amp already have all the ptt in's and outs needed. If i run BCD band data to the tuner from the 710 and key tuner with foot switch . . . . when ready the PTT out should key the radio . . . When radio keys it should send signal to amp to key it thus creating the delay needed so I don't get the "early RF " notification.

Is this NOT correct . . . I don't believe I need add ons. Flex made this real difficult to interface a NON flex radio.

Don't need a common foot switch. I have a seperate one for the 710. I'm gonna hook up later and try my theorized setup.

Setup works perfectly . . . This is what I did

Heil PTT Switch to rca keying input B of TGXL.

Output B RCA keying from TGXL to my PTT jack on Heil microphone cable .

Amplifier key line on radio to RCA input B of PGXL.

Setup works perfect with no "early RF" issues.

The answer was based on a common PTT used for both radios. Two separate PTT switches will work. Just make sure only one radio is on at a time using both cables from the Heil footswitch..
