Is there a minimum drive level for PGXL?

I have been playing around with a Hermes Lite 2 and would like to hook it up to my PGXL. I used to use a Flex-1500 with a Ten Tec Titan amp years ago and with 5 watts in, I could get 250-350 watts output according to what band I was on. I am hoping to do the same thing with the Hermes Lite.

Thanks,

Burch

You can give it a try and see how it works.

You will be limited to 15db of gain though thanks to FCC restrictions. So, 5 watts in should get you about 150 to 200 watts off the top of my head.

I see 275 watts with 5 watts drive.

That doesn’t seem correct. Is this into a dummy load?

10db gain should be 50 watts out

add another 6db, so that should give you 50 x 2 x 2 which is about 200 watts out.

So, for 15db gain you should be just less than 200 watts, which the PGXL is clamped at for US Customers.

I would be curious to know more about your test setup.

Recheck with dummy load on 10 meter band.

The 15db is calculated at the Power/SWR bridge in the PGXL. That looks about correct. :)

I run 5 watts on FT8 with 6600 driving my PGXL to about 100 to 120 out . It does help

keep 6600 running cooler especially when running 2- band FT8.
