This process is for the IC-7300 but the process will be very similar for any Icom radio.

What is critical is the Baud rate on the radio and the TGXL be the same. And the Hex address has to match.

  • IC-7300 at 9600 baud (9600 is plenty fast enough). The picture shows 4800. You can use 4800 as well, but just make sure the TGXL is also set to 4800 baud 8N1.
  • RCA PTT cable from the Radio RCA connector to the TGXL RCA
  • Mono Cable ⅛” cable to TGXL A or B side as required (A is being used in this example for an SO2R TGXL). You will only have A for a 1x3 TGXL
  • Configured Icom
  • X'94' or the same as the radio hex code (94 is the IC-7300 code)
  • 8N1 stop bits

  • Confirm you see your VFO frequency and CAT on the TGXL utility or the front panel of the TGXL
  • Set your Mode to AM at 100% RF power will produce a 25 watt carrier.
  • The TGXL requires at least 20 watts RF out to tune, so AM is good
  • The IC-7300 may show a high SWR - this is normal
  • Press the TUNE button on the TGXL
  • TGXL will tune to a minimum SWR
  • TGXL will show a tuned success message
  • Change the radio mode back to the mode of your choice.

This is a list of default HEX codes (the address of the radio). I noticed the IC-705 is missing and it is x'A4' (just A4 if you are typing it in).
