Horizontal Radio Controls

It would be really nice (in my opinion, of course) to have the ability to arrange the radio controls horizontally on the screen. I find a lot of real estate typically used for the spectrum is not needed in most cases. Would love to see the ability to size the control window and have the individual controls snap to the size you size the window to.

Something such as this:

I have hacked some windows programs to do something like this in the past, but, that was long ago....

  • I am running multiple large screen monitors, and could find something like this useful. Today I find using Mark's FRLogger radio panels, which can be broken out and placed next to each radio slice.

@Joe Herreweyers - I will have to checkout the FRLogger. I would like the horizontal controls as I really don't need that much screen height for the spectrum chart, just enough to get the peaks under the flags and that still leaves me with plenty of waterfall area.

I find the increased view of bandwidth would be more useful than the vertical real estate lost with the controls on the bottom. Once I have made a contact all I really use are the controls for filters, RIT and maybe the TX Proc and RF power settings.

The screen shot above was derived from running SSDR on a MacBook 12" using a Windows VM in Parallels, so only a 12" screen, I don't have space for a proper area with big monitors for operation unfortunately.

Depending on the need, frlogger is somewhat limited compared to other products.

I wouldn't have a need for that type of arrangement because once initially set I don't change the radio panels too often, so many times I push them off the screen, then monitor power levels, SWR, and such with FRStack overlays set at the top of the screen. I prefer the majority of the screen real estate for multiple slices.

You have a good point Butch, I suppose you have the S-Meter and many other controls directly on the flag. I do like to watch the TX audio level and compression when on SSB phone weak DX though.

I usually also run a little window with a remote desktop connection to watch my LD-500 monitor.

Your comment does have me thinking about what I realistically need vs. what looks pretty.

You should post this in the New Ideas area so others can vote on it.

I can't move it to that area unfortunately.
