Why does the ATU button stay red?

I have a EFLW antenna that is suppose to cover 80-6 M. On all other bands the ATU
functions normally BUT on 80M (CW Area) the ATU goes thru its routine and then the button stays red. I don't normally do SSB in the 80M band as I am running barefoot
on all bands... The radio seems to be trans ok...

It says Red when the ATU can't find a solution.

This can be for many reasons but it is often due to the fact that a solution cannot be found.

You may also find that adding a Mix 31 or 43 choke to your feedline near that radio will help. Do not add any chokes that are closer to 1/4 wavelength from the feed point at the lowest frequency. For 80M this is about 65ft.

    Yes, he is.

As many find out, End Fed Halfway antennas do require some installation care.
