Maestro Switches to MIC1 When USing PTT

MAestro with 2.1.33.  I have a PR781 plugged into the connection on the back of the 6700.  If I push the MOX button on the Maestro everything works fine.  If I use the footswtich plugged into the Heil RJ45 converter in Mic 1 the Tx audio in switched to Mic 1.  Tried several profiles always wit the same result.  It also does not matter which audio in I have selected: using the footswtich always send it to Mic 1

Can you explain which PTT input you are using as there are many.  

Is it if you have the Mic plugged into the actual radio and the PTT on the Maestro?  

In the manual, I found this.

When PTT is depressed while the PC is the selected microphone, the PC microphone will not be used as the source of microphone input.  This allows a local microphone to always override a remote PC.  To use the PC microphone, the MOX button must always be used as the PTT control. 

I 'think' that the PTT location makes that Mic active and you must use the MIC and PTT on the same device.  I either read it in the manual or Tim might have told me.   

Can you confirm which PTT you were using?

I am assuming that since you are (if I am reading you correctly) using the PTT line on the front-panel MIC connector, the radio assumes you are using a PTT microphone plugged into that jack and selects it as the current microphone as an automated "convenience".

If you want to use a foot switch or hand-held PTT button (not on a microphone), you should plug it into the PTT jack on the back panel of the 6700.

Guys,

Kind of figured this was the answer.  I use two mics.  When just rag chewing, checking into nets, etc. I use a PR781 plugged into the balanced input on the back of the 6700.  When contesting I use the a Proset HC-6 plugged into the Mic 1 jack on the back of the Maestro.  Currently the footswitch is plugged into the Heil RJ45 adapter on the back of the Maestro.  In either scenario I use the Maestro for rig control.

So I have four choices as to where to plug in the PTT: a) the RJ45 on the Maestro b) the PTT jack on the Maestro c) the mic jack on the front of the 6700 d) the PTT in on the back of the 6700.  It sounds like a) and b) are not the correct choice if I have a mic plugged directly into the 6700.  Which leaves c) and d) as my two functional options.  I know I have used C) with the headset plugged into the 6700 front mic, the PR781 plugged into the balanced mic input and the footswitch plugged into the  Heil adapter on the front of the 6700.

Two things I have never tried/used are a computer mic or VOX.  This is only an issue when I am at home where the Maestro sits on one side of the room at the operating position and the 6700 sits on a different table about 6 feet away.  When at our VHF contest site I plug the headset and footswitch into the Maestro Mic 1 as that is all that I am using for SSB operations.

Not really a big deal and your replies are helpful.  I am just trying to understand the architecture behind all of the different mic input and PTT choices.

Craig is correct.  If you electrically assert PTT on the mic connection, the radio switches to that mic connection because the 90/10 use case id there is a mic plugged into that connector and you want to use it to modulate the radio.
