I noticed that Icom is really aggressive with product promotion and demonstrations.

Look at how detailed this video is.

I know a lot of Flex users make video but it would sure be nice if the team at FRS starts making detailed product videos like the other companies.

Yeah it would be kind of cool if you could at least plug a mouse into the back USB ports on 6400M & 6600M.

It would be, but with multi client coming soon, that makes it very hard to do.

I guess you would know better than anyone that the mouse wont work for sure because you are one of the software engineers at flex. Thank you for your OFFICIAL FRS response.

    Looking forward to Muliti-Client.

    Tims response

    Official Response

No.  Mouse control is a "client-side" function, meaning it needs to be associated with the client (SmartSDR for Windows) and not the radio hardware (server side).  With Multi-client access coming in a future version of SmartSDR v2.x, it would very challenge to associate a client-side device (mouse, FlexControl, etc) connected to a radio with a particular client.

There are videos for Flex radios, made by Bob Nagy and others.

The thing about reviews - it's best if they are done independently. A company sponsored review has a lot less weight, IMO.

To Ria's point, the video example used here is not a good one. Icom is a big sponsor for Hamnation. that video was not a corporate release. I think Gerald has made some videos of radios from a Ham Fest, But as you said a corporate one well filmed would go well.

The video you referenced is not made by Icom. It's made by two independent creators. Ray Novak is there on skype for guidance, but it's not Icom's video. Icom has hosted it on their channel, but that's about it.

Flex has videos on their channel:

    https://www.youtube.com/user/FlexRadioSystems/videos

BTW many of those are made by friends of Flex, not employees.

Mike Walker, VA3MW, who is a Flex employee made a tutorial video. He put it on Vimeo.

    See here:
    https://vimeo.com/242338579

So friends of Flex make videos and these videos are excellent.

    Like Bob Nagy:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVuN8-9y2ZI&t=1s

Or Ken Wells, who has a whole tutorial series:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s7UbKiqxAA&list=PLnwyVLOEhQm4K8pFLe-g_Aoasm9WNXZOB

By the way, Ken's advice is invaluable as he knows quite a lot about audio. Since he is a pastor I am not surprised.

    Dave DeCoons has some:

    Hope this was helpful.

See their YouTube channel. They do have to add some for the new rigs but these radios are new and they have multiple irons in the fire right now so it may take some time, if they plan to do it at all.

It wouldn't be too hard for Flex to make a much more professional promotional video.

Yes video production is more affordable today than every before. Could you imagine how powerful it would be to have Gerald K5SDR, Eric KE5DTO & Steve N5AC make official comprehensive videos. Each person could go over various aspects relating to their area of expertise such as software hardware and so on. Now what would be better than hearing from the very people who created these products.

Yes I do agree that many of the video made by users are very good and informative and I don't discount the effort thay have made, the more video out there the better!

IMHO the marketing value of these official videos would far exceed the cost to make them.

Beside I love to listen to those really smart guys.

    :)

Yes the one Mike Walker, VA3MW put out a few weeks ago is very good.
Unfortunately the latest video on FRS’s website is for the PGXL from over year ago.

Don't get me wrong FRS is selling plenty of radios without these videos but it would just great for those people that are trying to decide what new radio they will buy to hear it from the folks at Flex direct.

I totally understand that FRS has been super busy with getting the new products out and I will be the first to admit, getting product out the door is a much higher priority than making videos right now. I would guess when they have some time to create a professionally produced video they will.

I'm just glad to have one of the finest radios available today, A FlexRadio.

"To Ria's point, the video example used here is not a good one. Icom is a big sponsor for Hamnation."

Imagine how **** Icom would be if FRS became a co-sponsor for hamnation and had to compete on the same show.

Now that would be very aggressive, and don’t forget although there are many good ham radio podcasts and YouTube channels HamNation is currently one of the most popular Ham radio shows getting more ham’s to view worldwide than any other program at the moment.

BTW HamNation has more sponsors than just Icom.

Hey Bill could you add the ability to store antenna preference and pre amp status inside one of the profiles while your at it?  I'm using two antenna systems with the Flex 6700 and when I launch SmartSDR 2xxx33 I have to go in every time on every band and set it up all over again. PLEASE, I'll be your friend if you do!!

oh and while your at it, it would be uber cool to have the band edges clearly marked.  So, when looking at say 20 meters, you'd see in the pan adapter a bright red line marking the end of the band..... just sayin.

Well, the band markers I can help with,,lol
Find the edge of the band and place a TNF there and select remember, it will always be there each time you need it. It will never move. Sorry it will be yellow.

How can I add the ability to do anything. but as I have been testing here if I set the radio as I want it such as antenna and antenna gains it is remembered with global profiles.

I tried to save these settings with global profane they were not remembered. What sets did you take ? I set u the radio opened up my generall operating profile hit save. I assumed it updated this previously saved profile. It did not save the antenna settings

I started with the profile I always us then changed my antenna selection, then turned on antenna gain to lets say 10Db,,,went to the top and selected profiles and then global profiles,,created a new name for it and saved

Nope doesn't work.  Yes it will save THE one band I was on when I saved the profile.  However, if I then go to another band, set things up, save the profile ....that is update the profile with this new data, only that band is memorized the rest are not.
