Kessler/Palstar AT-AUTO and Flex 6XXX Cable Question

I ordered two cables in a set for my Kessler/Palstar AT-AUTO back when I had my Icom. One cable was RS-232 on both ends and is for firmware upgrades. The other cable had Icom's tuner connection and a CI-V connection on one end and a 5 pin DIN connection on the other, this was for tuner control by the radio.
For use with my Flex 6500 and the new SmartSDR USB features do I connect to the tuner at the RS-232 connection or the 5 pin DIN connection?

Chris, I use two of the tuners directly from the Flex radio USB port. I am using this cable https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DYNNUS8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 into the 9 pin serial port. Let me know if you need the Flex configuration settings but they are very standard. These have worked successfully for about two months on v1.10. 73, Mack W4AX ALpha Tester0

Thank you Mack. I'll get some cables (I have an Acom 600S to connect also) and see if I can figure out the configuration myself first. I will certainly let you know if I need help setting it up.

Mack - Are you using Win10, and did you have to download a driver from Tera Grand's website that is referenced in the Amazon listing? TU.0

Here is another (direct "plug & play") option for a very reliable USB to RS-232 adapter cable:
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/FTDI/UC232R-10/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsvnOgGvSjZeKxPcLxkoiI0Y55yW71ZNSU%3d
I bought one of these many years ago, and it was the only such adapter I have owned that literally worked every time I used it, and with various radios (and other stuff). For the 6700 and AT-Auto, just connect it, configure the USB setup on the Flex, configure the tuner, and Bob's your uncle.0 -
David,
Win 10 includes FTDI drivers natively. No driver download was required.

As an aside, don't confuse the special FDTI cable with the USB to RS232 cables you would use with DDutil. These cables work from drivers on a PC and the FDTI cables have built-in chips that directly convert between USB and RS232.

Jerry,
I too bought the cables from Mouser that are referenced in the USB Guide. I am using three of the FTDI bit capable cables to fire individual bits. My configuration, which is largely featured in the USB Guide, is my system. I have seven cables in use. Full automation of everything for SO2R.

Mack,
My cables came yesterday. I hooked it up, changed the settings on the AT-AUTO and it worked right away!

Could you amplify on this? I bought some USB/Serial cables that had FDTI chips in them and they use the FDTI drivers on my PC (or Mac).0
