Flexcontrol Master AF Gain doesn't control headphone volume
Mark Erbaugh
Member ✭✭
I just discovered that with 1.4.16, when the Flexcontrol is set to Master AF gain, it adjusts the speaker volume, but not the headphone volume. Is there a way to have the Flexcontrol control the headphone volume?

Set your flex control to SLICE AF.

Hi Mark,
I believe it has always been that way.- Slice AF -- adjusts both speaker and headphone for the slice
- Master AF - adjust the speaker volume for all slices
- There is No Master Headphone setting
You could certainly argue that a FlexControl option for a Master Headphone would round out the settings.

Mark, I ditched FlexControl for the Behringer controller, which has not only
a decent tune/atu button, but also sliders for all audio devices and separate
main and headphone controls. And you are able to tune two slices/split at the
same time... I keep FlexControl for my Flex-3000, for which it is great.

You beat me to it. There are several ways to modify the programming for several DJ MiDI controllers to control a great variety of functions. Once you learn a little programming with "Processing" it is relatively simple.0

The slice gain is probably the way to go, but I made my comment because it seems to me more logical that Master gain should affect both the Speakers and Headphones. If not that, then how about adding a headphone gain option to the Flex Control choices?

Mark,
If you decide to enter an idea to add new options, might as well go all the way and cover all the possibilities with these 3 changes.- Change Master AF to adjust both the Speakers and Headphones
- Add Master Speaker to adjust only the speakers (like Master AF does now)
- Add Master Headphone to adjust only the headphones
This is probably not a difficult change but likely to be low priority. But it never hurts to ask.

Sounds like a good idea. I think the real improvement would be to add some sort of scripting for the Flex Control. There are a lot more things that could be controlled and the operating preferences determine the "best" solution for a particular operating setup.0

There is no option to adjust the headphone gain with the FLexControl. I have added this to our bug tracker for possible inclusion in a future release of SmartSDR.0

I would prefer separate options for Master Gain and Headphone gain. I use them separately. Then I use headphones, I either mute the speakers or turn them down somewhat so that the speaker sound doesn't conflict with my headphones. But I leave it on a little so that my XYL and son can tell I am on the radio when they enter the room.

Hi Ken,
Yes, it's usually better to add new options rather than remove existing ones. There are almost always users than like (or have gotten used to) the way it works now. I used to run into that all the time and although it is a little more work for the developers, in the end options satisfy more of the user base.
