I'm new to the 6300 and I am unable to transmit using JT-65. The radio receives FB, I have DAX setup per Youtube but the transmitter doesn't key.

Turn on VOX and see if that fixes the problem until you can get a T/R com port set up.

Look at your SmartCAT settings. Have you created a PTT port pair?
Here is my setup for WSJT-X and MiniDeluxe (I use the HRD Logbook and DM780):

    image

Note that I have created port pair COM7-17 for PTT and
COM8-18 fort CAT control of another program (you don't need that).

    image

    Here is the port map.

    image

Note that PTT is controlled via COM7.
There is also a dedicated Flex-6XXX rig control file if you don't use
    MiniDeluxe.

Note that MiniDeluxe is set to SmartCAT COM6
    and SmartSDR is ticked.

Alex's comments about a port pair are very valid. However if it is any consolation I have found that WJST is the most difficult digital to get up and running. In fact it was the reason for my initial comments on eham.net. Do you have any other digital programs running, if not set up something like Mixw which is relatively easy, or ROS which is easy or FLdigi which is  also relatively straight forward before going the WJST. Be aware though that if you set up WJST incorrectly,on transmit, it will lock the computer and the only way to stop the radio transmitting is to turn the radio off and start again. (This can also happen with Fldigi, as I have found out).
The video is useful to get to the receive stage, but it was no help to get the tx working.
I would suggest you use only slice A and make sure on the CAT that the tx button is showing red.
    Good luck.

ps: I know this may not be much help, but I have trouble with WJST as well.

Thank you for your comment, Ross. I have never had any problems with
the "original" WSJT-X by Jim Taylor as I am always using one slice only
for digital modes, slice A. As I use the HRD program suite, I use
MiniDeluxe to connect CAT to WSJT-X and HRD Log. Combined with
JTAlert-X this works absolutely fine. I have no power amp - alas,
working mostly with 10 watts output and I therefore don't need DDUtil.

I hope to meet you on the bands, Ross, when the condx are better.
I have had quite a lot of contacts to ZL last year...

I tried with the VOX Duane, the transmitter would key and drop out constantly even after
adjusting the VOX control.  The transmitter is still not keying.  I appreciate you taking the time to answer my request.

Hello Alex, thanks for the in depth explanation but I still have no luck.  I tried using mini
deluxe and also HRD. I am receiving a Hamlib error although I didn't write it down I can probably duplicate the error. I have disconnected all virtual com ports and restarted more
times than I can count. Any other ideas except using another radio?

I agree Ross. This setup is probably the most frustrating I have attempted. Thanks for your help although I still can't transmit, I am determined. 73

OK, sorry for a bad answer, Jim.  I've not used JT65, but I know it works fine for RTTY and PSK31.  I'm lazy and have left it operating this way instead of doing the extra work to add the COM port for T/R switching.  Maybe manana.....!

Keep trying, it will work try TS-2000 for the rig choice DXLabs commander will also work. all it needs is one PTT pair with either +dtr or +rts and one shared CAT pair. It's not WSJTX that has issues, it's Hamlib3 doing the CAT control. Joe Taylor didn't create Hamlib3.

    ====================================================

    *** UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE ***

Jim, I just got a comment from Jim, WA9BB, that he had luck with
setting up the radio as "TS-2000". Maybe you should try that first,
before reading all my blab below ;-)

    ====================================================

Jim, most software setup problems derive from the OS itself and how
you have set it up on the pc in the first place. There are a multitude of
changes in the registry and elsewhere when installing new programs.
One of the worst MS Windows bugs is, that it doesn't show all hardware
and virtual COM ports and lets programs assign them hapharzedly.

With the editor create a batch file, call it "show serial ports.bat" and
    put these lines in it:

    set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
    set devmgr_show_details=1
    start DEVMGMT.MSC

Then click on "Show All Hidden Devices" in Device Manager.
Open your COM port list and look for double entries. Delete all
    unused ports. Then try again.

I don't know your setup, of course, but I wonder about your Hamlib error.
Could you post a screenshot? I don't use Hamlib at all and you don't
need it for the WSJT setup... In the radio dropdown list use either
Ham Radio Deluxe or Flex-6XXX setup  files.

Wait - isn't Hamlib used in fldigi? I use RigCat there with the SmartSDR-
    sliceA.xml.

Have you got your computer clock properly synchronized? You can
use a synchronizing program like this one:

    http://www.thinkman.com/dimension4/default.htm

If all else fails, take another pc (I have an old notebook for this purpose)
and set up a new windows system and SmartSDR.
