INTERMITTENT TRANSMIT

Suddenly my 6300 'data interface' is acting up. I can see it most clearly on the DAX Control Panel; the Mic Stream and RX Streams indicators 'go yellow' every few seconds and a horizontal black band appears on the waterfall. The 'text' feature during an 'off cycle' says "data not arriving from radio, check firewall." I've checked the firewalls and they are off. So now what? This phenomenon just started with no changes to anything. I've made a few contacts under these 'conditions' with OK signal reports (no one says I'm dropping out), but I've noticed that if I key the transmitter during an 'off cycle', it does not transmit. These cycles are very uniform, coming at about 13 second intervals.

This is a network communication issue unfortunately. I assume that this is not a remote operation, but it is hard to tell from your comments. I'll need you to describe your network setup a bit more to understand where the problem. It helps if you can sketch out a diagram of your network.
To test, try to run a LAN cable direct from the radio to the computer with no other network in between (no router, switches, etc) and see if the problem goes away. Again, this is just a test.
Running real time applications like HF radio can expose network issues you might have always had, but never noticed since Web Surfing and NetFlix can buffer information that is not time sensitive and you might not notice.
Let us know how you make out.

Mike,
Not running it remote, I have the 6300 hard cabled to the router. The network is quite simple, no need for a diagram I guess. I'll see if I can find a short length of Cat5 and try the direct connect. I think I agree that this is a network issue, just not sure why it would suddenly occur when nothing has changed.

Mike,
OK, should have thought of trying that myself.....cabled directly to the computer and no interference now. I think I know what is causing it now, just recently added a WiFi switch to the network (not sure why it would cause a problem as there are three others already working with no issue) so will go from there. Thanks for showing me the obvious!

In our office, we found a NetGear Gigabit switch at someones desk that took down the entire network once you tried to move above 20mb/sec of data. Once it was removed, the network was fine.
Short story is that not all switches are perfect, nor, do they stay perfect it seems.
Glad you got it sorted out.
