Easypal catch 22

I have the issue with easyPal that it crashes on loading. This is cause by the program not seeing any audio from the sound card. But I use DAX. So I cannot load the program to configure the sound card because the program crashes because it cannot see any audio. Has anybody got around this issue when using DAX?

Tnx

I've emailed the author asking for him to increase the sound cards that his app will use.  He did not reply.   This is the same issue that WSJT had initially.  As you now, SmartSDR installs many virtual sound cards.   When the app tries to enumerate the devices, it was not expecting such a large list and simply truncates the results or crashes.   You could try disabling unneeded DAX sound cards 3 through 8 on your system since you have a 6300.   I have not tried that, but it may work.

easy pal will crash if DAX is not running , Since it did run once I suspect that DAX is not active.

That did not work I'm afraid, thanks for the idea.

I will leave them disabled as it will make the selection boxes of programs less cluttered. BTW, do you know what the DAX ports with 'IQ' in the name do? There are half the number of regular and reserved DAX ports.

It crashes with DAX running. I have never got this program to run successfully. I have posted on the EasyPal group, but asked here as from searching I see that many have got it working here too.

    Guy,
The IQ ports are intended to be used with a programs like CW Skimmer that decode a large portion of the band.. The normal DAX ports are band limited to the Bandwidth of the Slice filter and provide only one stream of data.  The IQ ports provide both in phase and quadrature streams of raw, undemodulated data that is independent of the Slice mode or bandwidth.

I disabled 5-8 on my computer for the 6500.  But you need to go into BOTH record AND play sound setups and disable both ends of each cable ... the regular DAX and the RESERVED end.  It takes a few minutes, and while you are at it, go into "Properties" on each DAX line and change the sampling rate to 48000 16 bit stereo for each one.  This, I am told, will reduce any residual math conversion errors on programs that need something less than 48000, i.e. 24000, 12000, 8000, etc.  Always use a number that divides evenly into 48000 on your Digi programs.

    Hi Ken,

I did all of that, disabled everything except those items ending in TX/RX 1 & 2 except I kept all four of my DAX IQ items enabled. All items set to 48000 by default in the latest version. Still no joy. I hate letting computers win, hi hi.

I assume you rebooted after disabling the extra DAX ports ?

Hi Al, Yes rebooted and yes the DAX ports are present and correct, viz only DAX 1+2 enabled and all the IQ ones enabled (4). No problems with DAX running at all with other apps at all - and I am busy testing loads at the moment before I find ones to use.

    Thanks

Did anyone ever solve this issue ?

Lee, I tried it again just now, but no luck with DAX.

EasyPal sees DAX audio RX 1 as aRX soundcard but is not able
to see DAX audio TX 1 as a TX soundcard. Disabling all other soundcards
does not help. There seems to be - as mentioned here before -a bug in
    EasyPal's soundcard enumeration.

I am using EasyPal regularly with my TS-2000 and microHAM interface.
EasyPal sees those USB audio codecs and works fine.

Yea, I even tried disabling all of the DAX ports and hooking up a Signalink but that didn't work either.

Do you have your easypal installed in c:easypal or in c:program fileseasypal ?

I have mine in c:easypal (but tried both) because I heard this could be an issue as well.
I assume there are no other digital sstv apps around correct ?

I have it in c:program fileseasypal. I have found no other digi SSTV apps...

    EasyPal sees only standard applications!!!!
Be aware that you have to reassign your PC soundcard as standard,
or you will stop hearing anything from it.... Windows &/%§**** ....

I have diabled all unused soundcards (DAX channels 5-8) for TX and
RX and also the reseved ones (5-8).

    Sound card RX settings:

    image

    Sound card TX settings:

    image

So you just have to set the standard right, what a windows
nuisance again! I really pity all those programmers who have
to work around this x%&?$... Some (mostly older programs just
can't find soundcards, which are not set to standard 8-(

    EasyPal works now:

    Also look at this thread:

    https://community.flexradio.com/flexradio/topics/easypal

DAX should be reworked anyway as there is no need for my 6500 to
show 8 DAX channels and only 4 IQ channnels. Surely it can't be
very difficult to write an intelligent DAX program, which can read
the TRX make and decide whether to display 2-4-8 DAX channels?
And when they are reworking it they can also change the DAX icon
and make Smart CAT disappear into the taskbar....

You could therefore try to assign DAX IN and OUT as standard soundcards.
Let me please know if that works.

Posted on the web is the sad news that the program's author is SK.

Erik VK4AES "Mr EasyPal" is silent key as of 14th March 2015

    http://www.g0hwc.com/sstv_drm_news.html

There doesn't seem to be any further news on whether anyone else will be going ahead with Erik VK4AES's software.

    http://bfy.tw/rdH may also help.

BTW I found this little program:

    http://audioswit.ch/er

which shows all soundcards, even virtual ones and allows you to
    switch them on and off.

Steve, the last version has some bugs. I run the Februrary 2014 version.
This one is easy to install (see my posting here) and runs with absolutely
    great pictures.
