No, it is not a reoccurring annual charge. It is a single, one year purchase for features that occur during the year from the date you purchased it. You don't have to renew after the year is up. And retain all of the features that were available and became available during your year of updates and upgrades. You can wait as long as you like to purchase another year of updates ( updates to existing features and bug fixes are free) until something comes along that you really want and are willing to pay for. Then, you will have another year of upgrades and access to possible, new features.

It is sure a hard pill to swallow after spending $8,000 for an Aurora 510 and a Maestro C to be asked to cough up $200 for another copy of SmartSDR+.

I bought a AU-520M and I figured that I wanted to support future development of SmartSDR and the radio's firmware. So, after giving it some thought, I opted for the Early Access license. In hindsight, I would probably been just as well off just getting the Plus license. The last features release didn't exactly provide the " ah ha!" moment that I was hoping for. I seriously hope that there will be some features added to the radios that only SmartSDR can access. Otherwise, I would just use AetherSDR which is packed with new features and doesn't cost anything. ( although you can donate to the group of developers now. But, it's not required) if I was still using the 6600M I had ,I would have just installed version 4 Basic and used AetherSDR with it. But, I like the idea of an all in one box that runs efficiently. So, I stretched my budget almost to the breaking point and went for the AU-520M. So far, I love the Aurora. But, if nothing really exciting and useful comes out for the radio and SmartSDR before my year is up,I will not be inclined to purchase another license upgrade again. Flex Radio needs to up their game in the features department to drive excitement for current customers and future customers.
