Does APF work for you in V4.2.18?

I tried using APF and it sounds like it doesn't do anything, if it does, its so subtle it sounds like nothing going on with it.

Maybe its just me

Phil (and F4BPO): Thanks for reporting this. A few questions to be sure I'm using the same setup:

Are there any other DSP/noise mitigation options enabled such as NR, WNB, etc?

I am assuming you're in CW since this is the only mode where APF is enabled. Can you confirm which version you are using and whether you had a better result in a previous version (and which version that was)?

Which radio model are you using?

Thanks for any additional information you can give that may help us isolate this issue more quickly.

    Hello Eric

Sorry about the delay in responding.

There were no noise reduction options involved and I am now using V4.2.18.

I can tell you that I now can hear the actions of the APF option but not as pronounced as it was in the previous release of SMARTSDR.

I normally have my selectivity set to 100hz, at this setting I cant hear any difference with APF on/off but at 250HZ and up I can hear a difference.

I hear the same thing on my 8600 running 4.2.18. I was attributing it to the narrower filter widths sort of "taking over" where the APF left off. The wider the bandwidth, the more pronounced the improvement with APF is. Maybe the APF algorithm needs to be a little more aggressive as the bandwidth narrows.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you give me an idea of the typical range you are running the AGC-T?

Hi Eric, with my high noise, I tend to run it in the mid thirties to low forties depending on band and time of day.

I use Tim's method for setting the RF gain to get the best dynamic range.

I use last version as well on a Flex 8600, APF used to be better.

Now engaging it on 400 hertz or even 250 hertz is not making a difference or very less and most of the times I remove it as I hear better without than with it engaged. It was not like that in the past.

Not using any other DSP when doing this.
