How to "lock" an unlocked FLEX-6600M (transmits on all HF frequencies)

Our ham radio club just received an estate donation of a FLEX-6600M radio. As I handle our club's "HF" remote (currently a 6400), I am preparing it for club use.

While updating the radio to 4.2.18, I noticed that this Flex-6600M is UNLOCKED (region: UNLK). I tested this by transmitting into a dummy load in the 8 MHz, 9 MHz and 12 MHz ranges … and transmitted at full power.

Now we do NOT want to let users access this radio in its unlocked state!

I opened a ticket with service, but they responded that they are busy on higher priority tickets, which is fine with me. So, in the meantime, I would like to hear back from the community:

  • Will a full factory reset remove this "UNLK" region/status?
    • I don't believe it will
  • Or … do we need a replacement SD Card?

I had my Flex-1500 opened up many years ago (a TURF file) as I was using it with external amps on FCC experimental frequencies. It's been a while and I do not know how this is done with the 6xxx series.

Hi Bruno, I don't have an answer for your direct question, but you might want to check out iShareRadio.com. It is a paid service that gives you a really great way to control logons and privileges of radio club members by license class.

I met Alan, N7AKG at Hamvention where he showed off his product on his home station on the West Coast. It is just what every club with a Flex Radio needs!

This has been converted to a support ticket. They will get you sorted out.

And, yes. IShareRadio is what you need!

LOLwe were a "beta tester" for iShareRadio and our club will be a paying subscriber. I suspect that iShareRadio can lock the radio to ham bands, but we wanted to make sure that no club member can bypass that :-)

As for the ticket, as I noted above, I already opened a support ticket … but you guys responded that you are busy and addressing higher priority items, which is the right thing to do.
