UI Suggestion: SSB default by band
I noticed something in 4.1.5 today…
Try this. Go to 40m and click the mode button. Notice the mode options. I'm on 40 but USB is the SSB choice. If I want LSB, I have to click the down-arrow next to CW to pick LSB from the menu:
I would like LSB to be button on 40 and lower, and USB to be the choice elsewhere. Heck, the rules may be differnet on 60, I don't know, but the software can and should.
That is all!
Thanks for reading, and 73

Well that is how its always been, nothing to do with 4.1.5. For 14 years I had the signature 6700 since SSDR 1.0. I think it would be nice if on 40 LSB was in that box but then on 20 LSB would be there unless you add code to automate the flag per band. May add more complexity then its worth.

Always check your modes. If you're using usb for ft8 instead of digi u.... it will go to usb. Some dxpeditions are on ft8 in the cw bands or if you try to read cw in the digi areas you're going to find yourself due to mode persistence going back to the wrong mode for the band segment erika K0DD

Another approach would be to establish profiles for each of your operating modes on each of the bands. Then, rather than selecting the band, then having to check/set the mode, you can just select the profile reflecting what you want to do (i.e. 40m phone = 40m + LSB, 20m phone = 20m + USB, etc.) You can also set up all sorts of other 'operating parameters' you like/prefer in your profile.
Using profiles definitely makes things a lot easier.

I like the idea of "profiles" but I hope we can come up with a differnet name because, well, there are a lot of profiles!
I like Yaesu's "QMB" or quick-memory-bank. For each band, a long-press on the QMB button will save up to 4 snapshots of mode, filters, etc. It's a stack - adding a new QMB slot bumps the oldest off the list. Pressing QMB cycles thru the snapshots for that band. I could see a neat graphic in the VFO box that showed the existence of several QMB's allowing me to select any one of them.
I think FRStack does something like this? It's a seperate application. I know how cool it is that we can write our own tools or use others' tools to manipulate our radios (I have done it myself) but some of those cool features sometimes get into SmartSDR - DVK, analog S meter, etc. Maybe this could too?

I suggest looking into FRstack. It has numerous memory options and many other features. It's very simple to set up and use. And it's free download.
