SmartSDR version 4.2. MIA?

Like some other folks, fellow Flex Radio users, I have been watching for the release of SmartSDR version 4.2.x. So far, nothing has been released or even hinted at. The last Insider didn't even mention anything about an upcoming release of SmartSDR. Or, for that matter, SmartSDR wasn't mentioned at all. Surely the release of AetherSDR hasn't upset Flex Radio's apple cart that much!

How about some news Flex Radio???

I am waiting for 4.2.X firmware. But, not in a hurry. I am currently on 3.10.15, which is stable. I usually wait 6-12 months to upgrade firmware on a Flex Radio MAJOR release to get radio side functional stability. But, that is just me. For clients, I use SmartSDR for MacOS, so I don't need the Windows SSDR client SW ever. And recently I started using AetherSDR for MacOS (Beta) which is remarkably advanced and has releases almost daily. So, when Flex 4.2.X radio firmware reaches an acceptable (to me) stability point, I will upgrade my 6400 and 6600 radios. If that takes another 6 months of waiting, I am ok with that. But, client side SW should be released frequently or frequently enough. SmartSDR for Mac, which is my mainstay, gets updates on the order of monthly? AetherSDR daily or so. I like the idea of separating Flex Radio firmware upgrades and client side updates. I think Flex should make that separation and have more frequent client side updates, but then again I don't use Windows for clients. de WA1QZX

I think that Flex Radio was taken by surprise with AetherSDR showing up. And, how Jeremy and Claude AI, and now other human contributors, have managed to provide some very meaningful features, especially for users of the 6000 radios. I am fairly certain that they must be reevaluating what they had planned for version 4.2.x and that explains why they have been silent about any upcoming releases for SmartSDR.

In some ways, I understand why you hold off so long before deciding to update your radio's firmware and SmartSDR. Especially if the version you are on does everything you need. The only possible downside is if you use any 3rd party software with your radio and they add something that you want or need, that will only work with the latest firmware. Then, you have to make a choice. Anyway, I think AetherSDR has probably caused quite a stir at Flex Radio. Whether good or bad, only time will tell.

other than some of us are into our 5th month on the $300.00 4+ subscriptions with ONLY the one update to show for it, come ON more updates already!

Starting to fill like it was a rip off for the early access subscription !!!

I will NOT be doing another subscription based update with NO guaranteed time line on updates.

I am starting to feel the same way. $300 for Early Access and I haven't had access to any new, exciting features. I didn't receive my AU-520M until late January. So, I do have longer to go in hopes of getting something that makes me feel like that the higher price was worth the money. If nothing comes along that changes my mind, I too won't be renewing my license. And it will take a really good have to have feature to make me spend the money again.
