PGXL temps
Hi all! hope everyone working the CW contest has a great time. I'll be on 15M.
Last week when doing the rtty contest everything ran great. 8600, pgxl, tgxl, AG.
Yesterday When doing some FT8 I noticed the amp temp climbing from 30 to 60 deg C as it is right now. Running 400W with 1.2 SWR. Last week I did not notice this increase.
Fans are set to Contest. At first I thought it was a glitch but now I am not sure. When I use a laser temp scanner on the rear left side of the amp it only reads about 30C.
Fans are very loud!
Is this normal or might I have a problem. Of course I expect the temp to increase but not that much. All gear is in the garage with ambient temps about 30-35F daytime right now.
What is the safe temps where I should begin to worry?
Thanks!
Greg

I often see 60C when running FT8. At that point I turn the fan to Broadcast as a precaution. I have the luxury that the equipment is in a climate controlled room in the basement so I don't have to hear the high noise due to running Broadcast fan settings. I have also found that running contest fan mode often does not cool the amp down as much as I would like.

60C is fine.
