Shipping notice
I received the email to pay sales tax for my AU-520M yesterday morning. I promptly paid. The subject title of the notice said that the radio was ready for shipping. In the body of the notice, it said preparing for shipping. So, my question is, how long after paying sales tax did those of you who have their new Aurora radios actually get a shipping notice?
When I paid the sales tax on the 6600M that I pre-ordered and prepaid when they were announced at Dayton in 2017, and I received the radio in February 2018, it was several days after paying the sales tax before I received the shipping information. And because I live close to Austin ( 171 miles away) it arrived the next day after receiving the shipping notice.

I'm really excited and a tad envious of people getting this new radio! I feel that asking here is like asking us to consult a crystal ball, though. 🔮
You may be best off going directly to FlexRadio with this question if Mike Walker doesn’t answer here, which he sometimes does. I want everyone to get their Auroras as quickly as possible - I’m waiting for everyone to give back reports on how much they love it before I sell my soul and my equipment to finance this expensive radio.
Best wishes and unlimited 500-watt DX to you!

Jason, thanks for your comments. My question was mainly to ask those of us who have paid the sales tax for their new Aurora radios how long after paying did they receive a shipping notice and tracking number. Since Mike already has his and under different circumstances, I would not expect him to reply. But, I was hoping other buyers would chime in with their experiences. No crystal ball needed. Just comments from other buyers.
I am pretty certain my radio will ship sometime next week. I was simply curious about others experiences.

James,
I received my AU-510 within a week after paying the sales tax. I would say based on your location, you will have it on Tuesday 01-20

Jason @KD9ZHF,
Start selling your equipment and soul. I love my Aurora AU-510. Run it all day at 500 watts and it keeps at 22 degrees celsius. Placed my order back in May 2025. Worth the wait.

Mike, thanks for the reply. What I was interested in wasn't so much the delivery time. I was curious about how much time elapsed between paying the sales tax and then receiving the notice email of shipping with a tracking number. The reason I asked is because another ham paid his sales tax a couple of hours before I did. And then a couple of hours afterwards, he received a shipping notice and tracking number. I guess my sales tax payment occurred after shipping time Friday. And that's why my radio didn't ship the same day as the other guy. It really doesn't matter, I was simply curious what the difference might have been.

Thanks! That is what I was looking for. I figure I should hear from Flex Radio by Monday or Tuesday. I think that they have improved production and shipping times. It gives me more time to get a few things better organized.

Got the email today. I was surprised because I placed (and paid for) my order on July 27, and just a week or so ago people who had paid back in May were getting their emails.
For those interested in how quick the radio should ship once the email is received, it said:
If your invoice shows a balance due (bottom right), your Aurora will ship within two business days after payment is received.
- Taxes are calculated based on your shipping address
- Additional items may affect your balance
If no tax or extras apply, your balance will show $0.00. However, we still need your confirmation before shipping. Please reply to this email with a simple “Good to go” message to let us know you’re ready.
Mine had sales tax due, so I immediately paid it. This means, I think, that my radio should ship in two days, or hopefully by Wednesday, January 21.
I will update this once I get a tracking number.

My prepaid May 22nd of last year AU-520M has yet to ship. Paid sales tax 6 days ago. Another ham on another forum paid his sales tax the same morning I did ( about two hours earlier) and received his shipping notice and tracking number a couple of hours later. ( he ordered the same radio I did) He received his new AU-520M today after a delay by the carrier because of a problem with the label on the shipping box.
I must still be on the Naughty list somewhere!

Never mind! I just checked my email for the bazillionth time and low and behold, I get my shipping notice! Shipping by FedEx Ground from Austin to Fort Worth is next day delivery. I will have to be extra vigilant tomorrow as the porch pirates might hit the jackpot if I don't pay close attention!

l just got the invoice for the sales tax!! My initial order was for a 510 placed on 2 September. A few days ago, I requested an update to a 520. I paid the invoice for the upgrade yesterday and then this morning I received notice of pending shipment. My wait is almost over.

Congratulations! Now the wait really begins!

Someone suggested that I use the FedEx app to get notifications for my shipment. I installed it yesterday. And once I received the Shipping email and tracking number from Flex Radio, the app showed " Label created ". ( it still shows that) I have had shipments from Flex Radio in the past with FedEx and just using the tracking number, there were a couple of times that their website information kept showing " Label created " until the next day. And shortly afterwards, it would update to out for delivery! UPS once kept saying "Label created " until an hour after I received a package from another shipper before going straight to delivered.
So ,I have no idea if the radio is actually in transit or sitting in Flex Radio's Shipping department waiting for pick up tomorrow or whenever.
Also, FedEx shows that my shipment weighs 28 pounds! I guess the packaging material must be really something!

And just like that, the FedEx app just caused my phone to beep. It says that my shipment is on its way and will arrive between 10:30am and 2:30pm tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what weighs 28 pounds!

Talk about messed up! I live in Fort Worth Texas. 171 miles north of Austin. I just checked the FedEx app and the shipment is in Webster Texas, down by Houston! Over 300 miles away!
Now, they are showing delivery between 11am and 3pm Thursday. I just hope that they get here before the predicted ice storm does this Friday!
Someone at FedEx wasn't paying attention!

I just got this email from Flex's shipping clerk about holding up shipping my 520 until the jacket size I requested is in stock:
"We are currently out of 3X, however our supplier is working on getting those to us very quickly. Shouldn't be very long. We do have 2X available, however. I can go ahead and ship your radio & tumbler and then ship your jacket once we have a 3X available. Or I can just wait and ship the jacket along with your radio & tumbler. If you want to go with a 2X I can get that all shipped now. Just let me know which you prefer. "
It is incredible to me that they do not know how long, and how great, our anticipation is that these radios be shipped as quick as is possible.
I also thought the jacket and tumbler were to be shipped separately???

I thought the same thing about the shipping of the jacket and tumbler. I guess they decided it would save some money by shipping everything together. That explains the extra 10 pounds that FedEx is showing.

Flex did ship the AU-520 today. FedEx says they have the shipment in their possession and it will be delivered on Saturday, 1/24. Package weight is 26.8 pounds. They said the tumbler will be in the package but the jacket will be shipped separately once it is in stock.

The journey continues. Shipment left Webster Texas this morning and then arrived back at Webster again 12 hours later. Just now it shows in transit from Webster Texas and delivery between 11am and 3pm tomorrow. I tried calling FedEx for Help and got an automated Help system that claims my shipment will arrive tomorrow. I couldn't get the automated system to let me talk to a human. It seems my AU-520M is wandering around in limbo. It's either that or someone at FedEx has found a way to get themselves a new Aurora radio.

James, I've often seen a pattern like this in FedEx tracking of packages from DX Engineering, about 125 miles from my home. The movement pattern doesn't make sense, but it may just be an artifact of FedEx internal scanning protocols. I'm not sure the package is physically moving as reported, as the shipments tend to arrive when expected regardless. Anyway, all part of the entertainment. I hope your experience with the actual radio is good.1

Hi Mark, I received an email update this morning showing that my shipment is out for delivery today. It is supposed to be here in the next three hours. It's funny in a way, the FedEx Tracking app that is a vertical line graph that shows stops along the way doesn't show the package going to or leaving Webster Texas at all. Just straight from Austin, Pflugerville, Dallas and finally Fort Worth. But, in the detailed information page it shows all of the back and forth movement including Webster. It makes me wonder what caused all of the odd movements. It has not been the same experience that I have had with Flex Radio shipping something to me in the past with FedEx. Before this shipment, I would receive shipping notice one day and the shipment arrived the next day. I am hoping that this is a fluke and not the new normal for FedEx.
Anyway, my AU-520M should be here before much longer.

Enjoy! I am envious that you will have an Aurora that at least passed through Pflugerville. Perhaps on someday on some band you'll hear a faint trace of the Austin Lounge Lizards!1

Hmmm ,Austin Lounge Lizards, dare I ask?
