How to connect LOG4OM to remote 8400 using SmartSDR/CAT using hamlib

Hi, I using an 8400 remotely using SmartSDR (V4.1.5) and I want to connect my LOG4OM program via Hamlib. Does anybody know how to do this. If I use Omni-Rrig (V1.20), it works, but I want to use hamlib. In fact when Omni-rig is started with the CAT com port assigned in SmartCAT, the SmartCAT program recognises omni-rig, but this does not happen when hamlib is linked to the same com port. I'm using the latest hamlib (4.6.5). I read a post where it was said that updating hamlib would help, but I'm on the latest anyway. (I think that person was directly connecting to the radio). There is also no radio id assigned to the flex 8400 in hamlib, so I'm using the Flex6xxx option (2036). There are allocations for SmartSDR Slice A/B/C etc, but they don't work either.
So, if anybody know how to connect hambli to a remote 8400 via SmartCAT, I'd be very grateful for a hint or config for SmartCAT or LOG4OM.
Thanks Steve - VK3SPX

    Hi Steve

If you works locally, the setup is identical for remote. You start CAT on the same computer as LOG4OM and let CAT do the SmartLink connection to the radio.

Now that you have that CAT port, you tell LOG4OM. You can also just tell LOG4OM it is a Kenwood TS2000 radio and it should work just fine.

I do not use LOG4OM, but that is where I would start. Others may be able to help.

HI Steve… I don't operate my 6700 remotely, but I use SliceMaster to connect Log4OM to the 6700 via the 'hamlib' TCP cx on Log4OM. If you want more info, just let me know and I'll be happy to post screenshots, etc.

    Thanks Mike and Don,
Mike, the method you describe is more or less what I have tried with no success.
Don, I'll have a look at Slicemaster, although why it should be required I'm not sure.
I have however found another method that seems to work.
My SmartCAT 4.1.5 (running locally on my computer which is remote from the Flex) exposes two cat port. Firstly a Serial COM port (COM7 for me), Slice A "Auto Switch TX" and secondly TCP Port 5002, Slice A "Auto Switch TX" .
As I mentioned in the previous post, Omni-Rig is happy to connect to the virtual com port, but hamlib is not.
Ie the command "rigctl -m 2036 -r COM7 f" which should fetch the VFO frequency of the Flex does not work, however "rigctl -m -r 127.0.0.1:5002 f" does work.
There appears to be something defective or weird with the virtual comports that SmartCAT creates.
Anyway, I guess I have a way forward.
If anyone has an idea why the virtual com port does not work as expected I'd love to know. Perhaps Slicemaster will do a better job, although I'm not sure that is intended for the remote computer.
    Thanks

Steve… SliceMaster is not required, but it does make things easier :-) It helps with setting up the TCP ports correctly and connecting up to the various other software and the Flex. I use Slicemaster to allow me to use TCP port, rather than COM ports.

Thanks Don. I might give it a go anyway. TCP created by SmartCAT seems flaky.
